RelyLocal Wausau is now Wausau Interactive

Today's one of those days that just isn't going well. I should have known that the rainy start to the day wasn't a good sign. As my wife and I where heading off to this morning's Local Business Roundtable, the transmission in our car decided to give us fits. The bad news was that the car had to be towed to the garage. But the good news was that my auto insurance policy came with top of the line roadside assistance. Thank you Deb of Clements Insurance Agency for not only saving me money on my home and auto insurance, but also setting me up with no worry coverage for when I did have a problem with the car. That roadside assistance was invaluable.

This year Halloween falls on the Friday October 31st. That gives area bars the entire weekend to celebrate the spookiest holiday of the year. There's plenty of opportunities for the younger set, and on Sunday October 26th the Marathon County Historical Society will have a presentation on Victorian death and funeral customs.

The Lumberjack
Back in 1914, during the early days of the silent film industry a movie was produced in Wausau titled The Lumberjack. The short, 16 minute, film is a romantic photoplay were a young mill worker falls in love with the mill owner's daughter. Now on Saturday October 25 you can see a newly restored print of this film along with the 1983 documentary on the making of the original film. Details on the Buy Local Wausau Blog.

Closing Thoughts
Longtime readers will know that I'm a big fan of home made pizza. I've experimented with many different styles of pizza, from our families weekly pizza nights, to making Pizza Margherita at last summer's Guys Who Grill event. But one type of pizza has escaped me until now: Grandma Pizza. Billed as an authentic Italian style pizza, this thin crust pizza fried in oil in a deep dish pan is commonly found on Long Island and Detroit. Read more about this delicious style on WPR's Central Time. (I think I will have to make a batch).
