Happy Corduroy Day! Say what? You've never heard of Corduroy Day? Well, it happens every November 11th in honor of all the parallel lines that can be found in the date 11/11. It's a great day to learn a routine on the parallel bars, spend some time in a parallel universe, or maybe take the easy route and make a cool layout featuring parallel lines.

We also want to make sure you didn't miss our announcement last week: We're looking for some creative customers who would love to see their layouts featured in our December newsletter. You can win a $50 gift card, free Scrap Girls products, and lots of kudos just for applying. Find all the details here.
Theme: Parallel Lines
Our Creative Team has used some great methods to incorporate parallel lines into their layouts. Jody found a great photo with parallel lines to use as her take-off point. Shannon met the challenge by lining up her elements in neat rows. And Valerie focused on the journaling in long horizontal strips. And they all ended up with a stellar layout!

Parallel lines are all around us - in shapes, patterns, even light and shadows. Once I realized this, putting a layout together was easy! I concentrated on papers with parallel lines in them, such as stripes and chevrons. I felt having an overly patterned background was too much, so I concentrated on using the papers as accents. - Valerie

The steel support beams in this abandoned workshop create an interesting pattern against all the horizontal lines of the scaffolding and the artsy randomness of the graffiti. I opted for a layout that allowed me to really highlight the photo with the beams, using Blending modes to portray the colors as they appeared on a sunny day as well as capture the grunge of this neglected industrial space. By using the frame, the sideways title, and the elongated text box, I reinforced the use of lines in my layout, which in turn draws the eye back to the photo and those eye-pleasing beams. - Jody

I used a large landscape photo of my handsome nephews and accented it by using parallel lines in paper and embellishments. I thought it needed a little texture, so I added the burlap along the edges, which brought in another subtle touch of parallel lines. Don't be afraid to fill your page with a great photo and just a few embellishments. - Shannon
