SAC to Implement Mentoring Program
|
|
|
The Staff Association Council is piloting a mentoring program among its members to help people achieve their professional and personal goals. Once the pilot phase is completed, the program will be offered to all Pitt staff members. SAC members completed a survey asking whether they wanted to be a mentor, a mentee or both. Mentors and mentees will be matched based on areas of interest and expertise. Some of these areas are:
Professional
- Human Resources
- Annual Appraisal
- Job Descriptions
- Purchasing
- Research Administration/pre-award and post-award
- Student Services
- Facilities Management
Personal
- Mentoring
- Continuing Education
- Writing self-appraisals
- Transferring jobs
- Information Technology
- Employee Benefits
- Medical Benefits
SAC is also developing guidelines for mentors and mentees so everyone involved with the program will know what is expected of them. Further updates on the mentorship program will be published in the SAC newsletter. If you have any questions, please contact the SAC office at sac@pitt.edu.

Donate to the
SAC Book Fund!
|
|
|
Please consider donating to the SAC Endowed Book Fund electronically or via payroll deduction. Last academic year the Staff Association Council was able to award FIVE $500 book scholarships thanks in part to contributions by other staff members. Please consider a donation in any amount, as every dollar goes to rewarding the hard work of children of Pitt staff members. You can even have the donation withdrawn directly from your pay!
Thank you for your consideration and generosity!

Osher Lifelong Learning Institue
|
|
|
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Pittsburgh, part of the College of General Studies, is a membership-based community for adults 50 and better who have a passion for learning. Because there are no tests or grades, it is the perfect environment for exploring new topics with other interested adults. Our instructors are current and retired faculty, and other professionals from around our region.
Each term, Osher members are able to choose from over 80 courses held throughout the week. These courses cover a variety of topics ranging from literature to astrobiology, studio arts to political science, religious studies to yoga, and everything in between. Typically, Osher courses are 5 weeks long and approximately 2 hours in length. In addition to the courses, Osher members can audit up to 2 undergraduate courses per term as part of their membership fee. Our members also benefit from the PittArts Cheap Seats program, use of the library, and University shuttles.
There are two options for membership: term and annual. A one term membership costs $125, or for $225, an adult can enjoy the benefits of membership for an entire year (3 terms). For more information about the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, please visit our website at www.cgs.pitt.edu/osher, email osher@pitt.edu, or call 412-624-7308.
