The King is Here

"Undercover"

1 Samuel 16

Thanksgiving is in the air. You can tell the holiday is drawing near because of all the Christmas decorations already up. Its Christmas here too, as we find ourselves in Bethlehem in this passage of Scripture, the birthplace of the king, the Messiah (which is from the Hebrew word for "anointed one"), the one that will save Israel, whose name is David.

Of course in a few weeks we will be back in Bethlehem, the birthplace of another king, the son of David, the Messiah, the one come to save not only Israel but the whole world. And his name is Jesus, sent to us by the Father who knows us, who gets us, who loves us...

FOR NEXT SUNDAY:1 Samuel 17, David and Goliath
Sunday's Bulletin
Congregational Meeting.  The Congregational Meeting will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, November 16th, in Foster Hall.  Bring a lunch.  Drinks and desserts will be provided. The business of the meeting will be the election of Elders and Deacons and the 2015 Nominating Committee.  We will also present the 2015 Church Budgets.  Materials will be available on today after worship for your preparation.

Thanksgiving Eve.  Join us for Worship on November 26th at 7:30 pm in the Sanctuary as we join with the people of Redemption Lutheran Church to give thanks to the Lord.  The Praise Team will be leading music and Pastor Keith will be preaching.  A great way to enter into this time of year.

Look for the Angel Tree.  The Christmas Angel Tree will soon be up!  On the tree in the Sanctuary you will find angel-shaped tags listing items you can purchase and bring in to provide gifts for children and youth in need of Christmas cheer.  We will be collecting toys and gifts for the young people

Thanksgiving Food Baskets.  Food donations are needed as we prepare to put together Thanksgiving Baskets for members of our church family and the community who are in need of food at this time of year.  The need is great, so please be generous.  We do not need canned vegetables!

Advent Potluck.  November 30th is the beginning of Advent! Join us for a potluck dinner at 5:00 in Foster Hall.  Everyone is invited to the Church-wide event.  The Children’s Ministry team will guide us through a fun time of making Gingerbread Houses!  Come yourself, bring your neighbors, especially any kids you may know!  Each family is asked to bring something that will feed 6-8 people.  Main dish, side dish or dessert. Sign-up sheet will be in the Narthex closer to the date.

Items Needed for Advent Craft.  Vanilla frosting (canned), graham crackers, little candy canes, miniature gum drops, rope licorice (red), teddy grahams, M & M’s, miniature and large marshmallows, smarties, and chocolate chips.  You can leave them in the box in the Narthex.

Fish Box Collection for Hunger.  This is a special collection to fight world hunger through two great organizations:  World vision and One Great Hour of Sharing. We will divide the money 50/50 between these two.  Boxes are due back today.

Operation Christmas Child.  Time is running out to put your shoeboxes together! Brochures with all you need to know about packing a box can be found in the Narthex. This is a great ministry that spreads the joy of Christmas to children living in poverty around the world, and it’s a way to proclaim the Good News of Jesus!  Filled boxes are due back on November 16th.

Praise Time has returned!  Welcome to the new Praise Team members.  The Team will be leading a time of worship from 10:35 – 11:00 on the second and fourth Sundays of each month.  Come, let us worship the Lord together.
