Wellness Brown Bag & Be Fitt Pitt Campaign!
Our November Brown Bag will be presented by Dr. Renee Rogers from the Department of Health and Physical Activity.

Dr. Rogers is the director of the newly launched "BE FIT PITT" campaign that many faculty and staff are already participating in.  This campaign uses PITT text messaging/email alerts via the Health and Fitness Program group to assist you with becoming more mindful of your health and wellness behaviors. If you haven't joined the campaign yet, registration for BE FIT PITT is simple.

This initiative and Dr. Rogers' brown bag presentation will focus on creating a healthier work day and environment with physical activity ideas, nutrition tips, and research-based information. We hope that you take advantage of this opportunity to BE FIT PITT!  Please register for the brown bag session so that we know how many people to expect.

The information revolution, like the industrial revolution, has dramatically changed what it is that makes a person valuable to enterprises and to fellow citizens. We cannot know with certainty which roles machines will take over and which will remain human roles, but I will make some rough predictions. I will also suggest several major changes that might make schooling, especially K-12, and life-long education more helpful to individual students and to society.

SAC Book Fund!

Please consider donating to the SAC Endowed Book Fund electronically or via payroll deduction.  Last academic year the Staff Association Council was able to award FIVE $500 book scholarships thanks in part to contributions by other staff members. Please consider a donation in any amount, as every dollar goes to rewarding the hard work of children of Pitt staff members. You can even have the donation withdrawn directly from your pay!

Please send questions to Institutional Advancement via email.

Power to the People
Running out of power on campus?  There are now numerous charging stations available across campus. CSSD operates Mobile Computing Counters in Alumni Hall, Benedum, David Lawrence and the Cathedral of Learning. There are also Mobile Device Charging Stations across campus.  Falk Library even checks out battery powered units that you can take with you.

Meet Mario!

Mario C. Browne is the Director of the Office of Health Sciences Diversity.  He has been in this position for the past three years.  In his current role, Mario assists departments within the schools of the health sciences to seek qualified, diverse candidates for academic opportunities.  He also does the following:
  • Assist schools to secure campus and extramural funding for programs and initiatives advancing faculty and student diversity
  • Create and monitor systems of evaluation that measure success for diversity and inclusion, including overall faculty, resident, fellow, and student success within the University of Pittsburgh's health science schools
  • Implement baseline diversity practices in schools and benchmark against competitors
Prior to his current role, Mario worked for the Graduate School of Public Health for eight years.

When did he join SAC and what committee is he a part of?
Mario has been a member of SAC since June, 2013.  He serves on the Staff Relations Committee and he also represents SAC on the Plant Utilization and Planning Committee of the University Senate.

Why did he join SAC?
Mario says, “I was asked by a Public Health colleague to join, and thought it would be a good way to serve the broader university community in a meaningful way. It is also a great way to build collegiality with staff members that I would not otherwise come into contact with.”

What does he like most about SAC?
“Along with my statement above, I enjoy being a part of a group of committed and dedicated University professionals who are willing to offer their time and talents to assure that fellow staff members professional and personal interests are heard by University leadership.”

What is his vision on how SAC can impact the University?
“My vision for SAC is consistent with the current vision of SAC, and that vision is one of shared governance between staff and leadership. We can continue to impact the University both with-in and with-out by fostering transparency in word and deed throughout the University community and being of service to our students the broader community.”

As part of the events for breast cancer awareness month, the Pitt-Titusville students, staff and faculty had a “pink-out” on Friday, October 24th in honor and in memory of breast cancer victims and survivors.
