Measures F and J Fail to Get Majority Vote

Two initiatives in the November 4th mid-term election aimed at changing city municipal codes to open up access to medicinal cannabis by allowing regulated cooperatives failed to garner the required votes needed to pass. Both measures needed a simple majority vote to be implemented.

Measure F in Encinitas received only 44.27% votes in favor despite having endorsements from political groups such as the Libertarian Party and the San Diego County Democratic Party, as well as activist groups such as San Diego Americans for Safe Access (SD ASA) and San Diego NORML.

Measure J in La Mesa did slightly better than Measure F, but still received only 46.39% votes in favor.

Because these measures failed to pass, medical cannabis dispensaries remain prohibited under each of their respective city's municipal codes, and the fight to ensure patients have responsible access to medicine in those cities continues.

Upcoming Events
ARMA Mixer TONIGHT, Wednesday, November 19th, in La Mesa

Measures F and J may not have passed, but clearly there is a great deal of community support for having permitted cooperatives in both Encinitas and La Mesa. Come join in the discussion of how to leverage the energy gained by the mid-term elections and use that momentum to take the next steps forward in providing permanent, responsible access to medicinal cannabis in San Diego County.

In addition to a lively look into election results, we will also be talking about the latest developments in the City of San Diego's permitting process, as well as medicinal cannabis updates from across the state and nation. Meet, mingle and network with ARMA board members, staff and stakeholders while enjoying a fun evening of wine tasting and socializing.

We've been having a wonderful time meeting and networking with everyone at these events! We're "mixing" things up a little and moving to the Proprietor's Reserve Wine Bar at the Riviera Supper Club in La Mesa, 7777 University Ave, La Mesa, CA 91941. Please join us tonight, Wednesday, November 19th, from 6:00-8:00PM.

The Proprietor's Reserve Wine Bar at the Riviera offers over 80 different wines, cheese plates and tapas, and daily happy hour specials. A full dinner menu from the Riviera Supper Club is also available. For more information about the wine bar and supper club, please see  rivierasupperclub.com.

Planning Commission Appeals: Roundtable Discussion with Marcela Escobar-Eck

A few City of San Diego MMCC applicants have gone in front of the Hearing Officer, and many more are preparing to do so in the next few months. We expect that every Hearing Officer decision will be appealed, and that each applicant will then have to plead their case to the Planning Commission for a final decision. How can applicants best prepare for their meeting with the Planning Commission?

Former head of San Diego's Development Services Department Marcela Escobar-Eck
will answer this question and more during a two-hour roundtable discussion and Q&A regarding the next step in the city's complicated MMCC permitting process. Bring your questions to the table and join ARMA on Friday, December 12th from 3:00-5:00PM at Giovanni's Italian Restaurant located at 9353 Clairemont Mesa Blvd, San Diego, CA 92123. ARMA members participate for free; prospective members can participate for $99 per person. To RSVP, please email info@responsibleaccess.org.
