A chance to change the law

A House of Lords amendment could transform the UK busking landscape

Many of you know that the last 14 months have been an incredibly stressful time spent challenging Camden Council's anti-busking law, on the streets, in the council chambers, in the High Court and now, at the Court of Appeal. It sometimes feels like there is an overwhelming mountain of opposition to climb in order to seek justice on the streets. I am writing another group email because we have a unique chance to strike off Camden's law in Parliament itself because passionate supporter of live music Lord Clement Jones has tabled an amendment to the Deregulation Bill which, if accepted, would remove the threat of criminal records and instrument confiscations for buskers in London, and set a precedent for public spaces that are open to grassroots art and culture.

In a world awash with internet petitions can I ask you to add your signature to this one? We need to demonstrate a breadth of support to the Government to give the amendment the very best chance of being accepted into law.

Meanwhile we will be holding an all day protest on Camden High Street on the 12th November 2014 with the Church of the Holy Kazoo the day before we go to the Court of Appeal to seek leave to challenge Camden's law. If you are so minded, please pray for us (or blow a kazoo on our behalf) and for streets that are open to spontaneity, laughter, challenge and fun across the country and beyond.
