THE ALUMNI SPIRIT

We have so many things to share with you! This edition includes details about the Fan Playoff Bus, Winter Clothing Drive, Veterans Day, and our upcoming November meeting. 

Our donations coordinators meet regularly with the school and we know the need is great at Sam Houston. Approximately 3,500 students  are currently homeless in AISD and these numbers do not include students who are considered "couch surfers" in high school, who bounce around to friends' homes. A majority of these students are Sam students and students feeding into the Sam district. We have also received reports of several families living out of vehicles. With the cold weather approaching our Winter Clothing Drive and "Beyond Lunch" Food Program are at a critical need this time of year and we hope you will consider supporting these initiatives. 

The "Beyond Lunch" Food program is available to students throughout the school year. Meals are provided to students who are involved in extracurricular activities,after school, who often go without dinner. Food is also made available to students lacking needed nutrition over the weekends and holidays. Our donations coordinator indicated she is in need of bottled water and individual juices. Ms. Jones, the school's social worker said the gloves, hats, and coats went out the fastest, but every single item was given out and gratefully used. This year, we are accepting items for even small children, as many of the students expressed the need last year for their younger siblings. We are also in great need of all sizes of NEW underwear and NEW socks. 

We are so grateful for your kindness and generosity to the students of Sam Houston and supporting these alumni programs. The students feel the presence of the alumni association and we are making a tremendous difference in our community.
