Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement -- along with a good cup of coffee! -- to start the day.  Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week.

Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.

Discipline or Regret

My favorite quote is from Jim Rohn:

  • We must all live with one of two pains.  The pain of discipline or the pain of regret.
Unfortunately, I deal with the latter pain way too often!   In spite of my good intentions, many times I just cannot muster the discipline to focus on what I know I should be doing.  As a result, I get to the end of the day, week, or month and find myself dealing with regret and cursing myself for not having gone through the pain of discipline earlier in the day, week, or month.

Fortunately over time, the incidences of regret are becoming fewer and the incidences of discipline are becoming more common.  That is because I have embraced Rohn’s quote and revisit it multiple times each day.  While I don’t always make the right choice, keeping the concept of “discipline or regret” at the forefront of my mind helps to guide me to some of the better choices each day.

The reality is the decisions that we make today shape our tomorrow.  Many of these decisions are challenging and not all together pleasant at the time; however, if we can find it within ourselves to push through the short term pain, we often are rewarded with the long term gain.  For me, I have come to the conclusion that when I look back on the past, I rarely regret what I did; however, I often regret what I did NOT do.  This one revelation has helped me to be more disciplined when facing the unsavory tasks.

My question to you is as follows:
  • At the end of today, would you rather look back and reflect on the pain you pushed through or the action you left undone?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me and have a great week!
