Koigu Journal November 2014

Let's use catchy Koigu colors!

As the days grow shorter and bleaker here in the Northern Hemisphere and we
begin to feel as if we're living in a Wallander novel, it's time to treat ourselves to
some Koigu color.
This month, we'll be crocheting but fear not-- these projects are simple enough
for an adventurous beginning crocheter.
The only techniques you will need are single crochet (sc) and slip stitch (slst).
Once you pick your colors (arguably the best part), individual motifs are crocheted
and sewn together to create a cowl, a neck wrap or a scarf.
The samples shown here are just a jumping-off point-- among the three palettes
we've chosen are a neutral, a medium and a bright.
We've found that a mix of brights, darks and lights for the centers play well
together and bring depth and motion to the pieces.
The scarf features stippled centers within a neutral border; the cowl uses rainbow
centers in a bright border; and the neck wrap is made with darker shade for the
centers to contrast with a brilliant border.
The beauty of Koigu yarns is that it's pretty hard to wrong with whatever colors you
choose so pick colors that you love and a find a solid that ties them together.
The cowl uses 24 individual motifs in four different colors and picks up one for the
edging.
You can either makes all of your motifs first and then sew them together, or if you
like to see how your project looks as you progress, attach them as you go along.
We've created color placement charts-- you can either follow our choices or plug
in your own!
The neck wrap and the scarf each contain six different colors for the centers.
