RPO gekant teen gif

Die nasionale Rooivleisprodusente-organisasie (RPO) is heeltemal gekant teen die gebruik van gif op plase om van ongewenste diere ontslae te raak.
Volgens die RPO en NERPO se Kode van Beste Praktyk word metodes wat moreel onregverdigbare lyding veroorsaak, soos vergiftiging nie onderskryf nie en boere word ontmoedig om dit te gebruik.
Dit volg ná 48 aasvoëls in die Oos-Kaap gevrek het omdat die betrokke boer rondloperhonde wou vergiftig.

Vleisverbruik sal aanhou groei

Vleisverbruik sal in die volgende dekade aanhou groei, hoewel makrofaktore verantwoordelik sal wees vir hoër vleispryse en ‘n ietwat laer verbruik relatief tot die vorige dekade, het Gerhard Schutte, Hoofuitvoerende Beampte van die RPO by die jaarlikse Aldam Veekundedag gesê.  Lees meer ...

OBP stel entstowwe beskikbaar

Die entstof teen knoppiesvelsiekte en Brucellose is nou weer beskikbaar en ‘n groot hoeveelheid entstof vir perdesiekte is aan die einde van Augustus vrygestel, sê Dr Jacob Modumo, Hoof van Sake-ontwikkeling by Onderstepoort Biologiese Produkte (OBP).
Die B-Pmemerol en Bloutong-entstof sal teen die einde van Oktober beskikbaar wees. Intussen beveel Modumo aan dat boere vlieg-afwerende middels gebruik om hul vee teen hierdie siektes te beskerm.
Die opgradering van die OBP se geriewe, wat boere vir maande sonder kritiese entstowwe gelaat het, is afgehandel.

Promoting the Education campaign at SPAR MEAT TRADERS

Lamb and Mutton SA had the opportunity to have a stall at the SPAR Meat Traders annual event held on the 30th of October at St George’s Hotel, Centurion. At this event Spar invites all those who produce meat products for SPAR to be exhibit. This gives the SPAR franchisees an opportunity to familiarise themselves with all the new suppliers and products available.  Read more

The 12th Meat Symposium

The RMRDSA (Red Meat Research and Development of South Africa) is hosting the following event.
What: The 12th Meat Symposium Theme: Relevance of the South African Carcass Classification System
Date: Friday, 7 November 2014, Sanlam Auditorium, University of Pretoria
The South African cattle and small stock description systems can be traced back to 1932. Over time these description systems have been adopted and refined as informed by research in consultation with industry role players. A critical rethink of the relevance of the current carcass classification system will be the theme of the day.
Interested parties will be attending. Late registration for the event will be considered on an individual basis. Visit our website www.rmrdsa.co.za to register.

Red Meat Industry is key role player

The red meat industry has been identified as one of the key role players in the Agricultural Policy Plan (APAP), which is part of the National Development Strategy of South Africa.
According to the latest APAP publication, the red meat industry is a complex integrated value chain with different commodities (especially yellow maize) feeding into the different red meat sectors, namely beef, sheep and goat meat and pork. The red meat industry is seen as a medium performer in terms of labour absorption.  Read more ...

Monthly diseases reported

Reports of mortalities due to wireworm infestations were received, according to the monthly report on livestock disease trends as informally reported by veterinarians belonging to the Rural Veterinary Association of South Africa.

Reports were received (Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal) of financial loss due to cattle infected with Parafilaria bovicola slaughtered at abattoirs.  Read more ...

Tokyo the next venue for IMS workshop

Plans are moving ahead for the next IMS Economics Workshop in Tokyo from 11 to 13 May next year.

The Workshop is to be jointly hosted by Japan’s Agricultural and Livestock Industries Corporation (ALIC) and the US Meat Export Federation. The venue is to be the attractive Meiji Kinenken meeting facility.  Read more ...

Increase in Beef production expected

Internationally, beef prices have been supported by good supplies from Australia, however, US domestic supplies are still tight, which supports gains in prices, according to ABSA AgriTrends.

There is an expected increase in beef production which is supported by heavier carcass weights as lower maize prices encourage producers to market heavier cattle.   Read more ...

Mutton prices will move sideways

Internationally, mutton prices will continue to move sideways supported by good supplies from Australia, according to ABSA AgriTrends.

China and Europe have good inventories which also supports supplies. Prices are expected to have an upward potential due to expected increase in demand.  Read more ...

Ten opsigte van waardestelsel is ‘n belangrike tendens wêreldwyd (ook hier) dat meer gegoede en belese verbruikers nie net keuses uitoefen op grond van kwaliteitsoorwegings soos vleissagtheid en konstante kwaliteit nie, maar toenemend waarde heg aan faktore soos hoe is die dier behandel (dierewelsyn), wat is aan die dier toegedien (voedselveiligheid) en het die dier ‘n siekte gehad wat aan die mens kan oordra.     Lees meer ...
