THIS WEEK AT MARYEL....
Dear Parents,
This week we talked about the importance of Safety and the Traffic lights. We went over numerous things that were dangerous to touch and things that are safe. They took a look inside of a First-Aid kit and discussed the materials in it and its use. For the traffic lights we went over the meaning of the colors and designed our own traffic lights.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Matemáticas - Clase de español
We did sequencing patterns this week with the colors of the traffic light. I started off with the patter Red, Yellow, Green, Red, Yellow, Green and they had to figure out the next 6 sequence of colors. A few got the patterns rather quickly while other took a little longer to figure it out.

We continued with rectangle but also reviewed the other shapes. A different color was chosen for each shape and everyone had to color that shape with the color when the shape was called out. It was very interesting to see how fast they were able to find the shape and color it in.

Lectura y escritura - Clase de español
This week we read “Estrellita y la ciudad grande”. Here we looked at the street cars and the traffic lights we see in the neighborhood.
For our writing time we continued with the capital letter D. D is for “Dinosaurio” (dinosaur) and “Dedos” (fingers). We also traced rectangles and our names as well.

This week we used a lot of visual aids to show the children the appropriate steps to take when outside. We always hold an adults hand and stay by their side when we go outside. The letter of the week was “Ee” and the children were able to trace their letters and sound out the words: elephant, eggs, and envelope.

Natural and Social World- Spanish Class
Mundo natural y social- Clase de español
We formed a bus in a line. I had Charlie as my leader and Santiago as my caboose. Theo was my “Pare” (stop) sign and Leah was my “Siga” (go) sign. I played “Las ruedas del autobus” (the wheels on the bus) song and when Theo would hold up the “Pare” sign, they had to stop! When Leah yelled “siga” then they could go.
With the neighborhood building blocks they created a town with the traffic lights and cars.

Using visual aids, we discussed some safety rules that we should follow when we are outside. Among the topics was one about who should we obey a police officer or the traffic light and one about stopping at the end of the street. We heard a story about Papelote going to 2 birthday parties and everyone wanted to hear and see the pictures.

Educación física y de la salud - Clase de español
We took a look inside a First-Aid kit and named the objects inside and what they’re used for. We saw “medicina” (medicine), “curitas” (band-aids), “gaza” (gauze) and “algodón” (cotton). We then worked on our workbooks and placed the appropriate stickers that belonged in the first-aid kit.

Educación física y de la salud - Clase de Ingles. HALLOWEEN
Using a stop sign, we played stop-or-slow. Children were able to walk until they saw the sign which would say either “stop” or “slow” depending on which said was in view.
Because it was Halloween, we were able to carve a small pumpkin and pull out all the seeds.
We used our senses of smell and touch to count our seeds and make a graph.

Arte y Música - Clase de español
We colored and created our own traffic lights. It was a two days process where we first colored our base black and pasted the colors Red, Yellow and Green in our circles. The next day we had to look at the traffic light and see what color when on top, in the middle and at the bottom and paste them accordingly on our paper.
