Lesson 443: Works That Really Matter
We want to be remembered. But everything we build and care about on earth will fade and be erased eventually. Our earthly accomplishments will all disappear over time.
Our performance becomes insignificant as time passes. We will be forgotten.
If God doesn’t measure our value by what we do, why should we care about serving Him?
God does not value us according to our performance. But does God’s unconditional love make obedience unimportant?
Does it mean nothing when a martyr dies for their faith?
How can we understand the proper role of good works in Christian living? The key is 2 truths:
God through grace values His children even though they have no merit; we don’t deserve it.
But God also uses our obedience for our good and His glory. As we obey, God is working His purpose for our lives, blessing us, and fulfilling our desire to honor Him.
About This Series
The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21
- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
