AGM - Tonight

The 2014 Annual General Meeting of the Blackburne Creek Homeowner's Association takes place tonight.

The AGM will be held at the Ellerslie Rugby Park at 11004 - 9 Avenue SW. Registration begins at 6:30pm and the meeting commences at 7:00pm.

President Brian Hawrelak will deliver the President's Message for the second time at an AGM and bring members up to date on developments during the year. Treasurer Drew Schofield will present the financial statements for the year ending June 30, 2014 and a new Board of Directors will be elected. There are openings on the Board and we encourage those interested in getting involved to attend the meeting tonight and let your name stand for election to make our community a better place. If you have any questions about the meeting, just drop us a line.

Slow Down!

With colder weather, snow and ice on their way, it's a good time to remind everyone that the speed limit in Blackburne Creek is 50 kilometres an hour and this includes the hill leading to and from 111 Street.

It's also a good time to point out that two or three trees along Blackburn Drive were destroyed last winter by drivers who had lost control of their vehicles.

From time to time, police have posted a mobile speed detection device along Blackburn Drive at the request of the homeowners' association.

Those Pesky Beavers

Once again this fall beavers have been active in the creek area below the playground.

As they build dams, mature trees disappear next to the creek and the association has been asked to do something to help save as many trees as possible. The association has been in contact with the City of Edmonton to seek assistance, but is also asking concerned residents to contact the City directly as well.  A call from a resident in the area about trees being destroyed by beavers carries as much weight as a call from the association. If you are concerned with the damage being done by beavers call the City at 311 and lodge a complaint.

In the past the City has trapped beavers and moved them to other areas along the creek, but Blackburne Creek is a great place to live and the beavers seem to know it too.
