Principal's Corner

1st Quarter Completed

As I write this article, I cannot believe that we have crossed into the 2nd quarter of this school year.  It always goes so fast once we get started, but this year seems to be flying by right before my eyes.  I am having the best time transitioning the 6th graders, learning with the 7th graders and teaching the 8th graders how to lead.  Overall, I believe the students have done an exceptional job staying focused and motivated, all with the goal in mind to to reach their full potential.  I am always so proud when visitors come into CHMS and talk about the positive atmosphere that they feel and experience.  CHMS is truly a special place and I want to thank the staff for the work that they do each and every day with your child(ren).  As always, if you need anything, please do not hesitate to contact us via phone or email.

Kindness…Pass it on
I am unsure if you are aware of a kindness project that is making its way through CHMS.  Modeled after the “ALS Ice Bucket Challenge,” the teachers at CHMS have begun the challenge and it is quickly spreading among advisories at all grade levels.  You can see the 3:27 kickoff to the challenge at:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GOtlBTzh6w

Ask your son or daughter if their advisory has been challenged and if it has, ask him or her how they have passed along kindness to others.  Educating children to be thoughtful, caring, well-rounded individuals is one of the core beliefs of CHMS.

Parent Conferences Update
Information regarding the specifics about how parent conferences look at CHMS will be coming soon via email.  Please look out for an email from Mrs. Sherman regarding sign up procedures.  Remember, Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Monday, November 24th from 2-8pm. and Tuesday, November 25th from 8-2pm.

Second Manna Campaign Begins November 3rd--Gift cards are GREAT GIFTS for the holiday season!

2nd Manna Campaign Starts Tomorrow!
Manna gift cards are PERFECT GIFTS for the holiday season!!  The next Manna Campaign runs Monday, November 3rd - Wednesday, December 3rd. These gift card orders will be ready for pick up in the CHMS lobby on Monday, December 15th from 2:30-3:30 pm just in time for the holidays! Gift cards are easy to use for your normal everyday purchases too such as groceries and gas.  Remember these gift cards have no expiration date with the exception of Visa that has a 6-month expiration date.
Vendor Discount Percentages: Where do I find them? The list of merchants and their discount % amounts can change from time to time. Go to www.mannaexpress.net to see the merchant list. Click on FORMS and then BY PERCENTAGE to see the most current vendor discount percentages.  Every little bit earned goes towards your child’s Manna account, and ultimately offsets their 8th grade Washington D.C. trip!

Eco Club is once again participating in the USAgain America Recycles Day challenge!

ECO Club Challenges YOU!

The CHMS Eco Club is once again participating in the USAgain America Recycles Challenge! Throughout November, CHMS will compete to collect the most textiles for recycling. The top 5 collecting schools will win cash prizes and all schools will raise funds for every pound collected! The USAgain bin is on the CHMS plaza to collect all kinds of textiles, which are then reused or recycled. The bin provides students, faculty and the local community an eco-friendly and convenient way to recycle clothes and shoes while we earn cash per pound of textiles collected. Start delivering your textiles any time until Sunday, November 30th!

Become a Tech Savvy Parent
Tomorrow, Monday November 3rd at 7:00 pm, CHMS Principal Griffin Sonntag and MRC Directory Sally Duffy will present “Digital Citizenship.”  Parents will learn about the latest technology and apps, parenting tips, and reinforcements about helping our children navigate social media and technology while growing up.  There will be time for questions and answers at the end. If you don’t know much about the technology your children are using (like Snapchat, Instagram, Whisper, etc.) please come tomorrow night.  We hope to see you there!
