November is DiabetesAwareness Month!
The Remarkable Correlation Between Diabetes and Chiropractic Care
Roughly 1 out of 3 men and 2 out of 5 women born in the year 2000 will suffer from diabetes in their lifetime making diabetes the 5th deadliest disease in the United States. Interestingly, recent studies have pointed to evidence that chiropractic care may make a valuable contribution to helping those diagnosed with diabetes.
The average person may not understand the correlation between diabetes and chiropractic. When the area of the spine that supplies nerve transmission to the pancreas is structurally misaligned, the stress and tension caused by the mal-positioned vertebrae can interfere with the function of that organ. This may result in the pancreas’ inability to produce enzymes to digest proteins, fats, carbohydrates, insulin production, or both. Blood sugar and digestion may become unbalanced causing hypoglycemia or diabetes.
A case study published in the November 2011 edition of the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal, & Family Health showcased a four-year-old child who had remarkable results stabilizing her blood sugar after starting chiropractic care. The patient was diagnosed with spinal subluxations in the upper cervical region and received care for a total of 24 visits over a 2 month period. After this two-month period, she experienced a drop in hemoglobin A1C from 7.2% to 6.5 % as well as a decreased amount of insulin needed from 15 units to 11 units per day.
Additionally, Canadian research discovered breakthrough regarding a potential near-cure of diabetes. In the study, now published in the journal Cell, diabetic mice became healthy virtually overnight after researchers injected a substance to counteract the effect of malfunctioning pain neurons in the pancreas proving that the body’s nervous system helps trigger diabetes.
Chiropractic care works by optimizing the neural connections throughout the body. The strength of connection within the Central Nervous System (Brain and Spinal Cord) and Peripheral Nervous System (nerves traveling to and from the rest of the body) determine the optimization of the rest of the systems in the body, including the endocrine and immune systems.
Thermography is a radiation-free health screening procedure that uses heat detection to locate areas of temperature differences in the body.
Most pathological processes demonstrate increased heat, and some show excessive cold, or hypothermia. Breast disease can be detected by looking for areas of excess heat indicative of increased blood vessels supplied to a growing tumor.
All reports are reviewed and signed by senior interpreter, Alexander Sepper, MD, Ph.D., who has practiced over 30 years as a Gynecologist and has performed 100’s of thousands of thermal studies for women with ovarian and breast cancer.
Thermography technician, Ashley Ageloff, will be performing Thermography scans at Jupiter Family Chiropractic one day per month. The next available date for Thermography screening is Wednesday, November 26th.
