Dedicated to Charles H. Nelson        Nov 2014

I am pleased to announce the opening of my newest exhibition, "GRAV•I•TY", opening Decemeber 12 at The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCAGA). I am also honored to announce that I will be dedicating this show to the memory of my good friend, mentor, and Atlanta arts icon Charles H. Nelson. A passionate advocate for the arts, dedicated educator and an extremely talented artist working in a variety of media, Charles was an early forbear of Atlanta's contemporary arts community. Though he was only 38 when he passed, he had already gained an international reputation for his works which challenged and explored notions of Black identity, masculinity, Afro-futurism and much more. His impact on my own work was profound. He was not only a colleague, he was a coach - challenging me in my thinking, pushing me technically with my work, and supporting me and many other aspiring young artists who today, help make Atlanta a major base and destination for contemporary arts. Imagining New Worlds: José Parlá and Fahamu Pecou

HIGH MUSEUM of ART | February 14-May 24, 2015

In conjunction with Wifredo Lam: Imagining New Worlds, the High will present two solo exhibitions by leading contemporary American artists José Parlá and Fahamu Pecou. Presented in galleries adjacent to the Lam retrospective, Brooklyn-based Parlá and Atlanta-based Pecou's exhibitions will respond to the work of Lam, providing contemporary perspectives on his life and career.

The artists will examine Lam's artistic legacy through works that explore their own personal reflections on the artist's involvement with the Surrealist and Négritude movements, his fusion of African-inspired imagery with that of the natural world, and the influence of the Santeria religion on Lam's artistic approach. The exhibitions will feature mostly new work by the artists and will include paintings and sculpture, murals, and sound elements. Parlá and Pecou will also collaborate on an installation in a third space.

My "Gravity" series is featured in  STATE OF THE ART, a survey of more than 100 contemporary artists living and working in the United States. The series is also a part of the museum's expansive permanent collection!

State of the Art brings together the artwork of more than 100 artists, ranging from works on canvas and paper to photography and video to installation and performance art, and more. The exhibition examines the ways in which today's artists are informed by the past, innovating with materials old and new, and engaging deeply with issues relevant to our times."
