 Veteran’s Day Mission
Tuesday, November 11
Our youth are out of school Tuesday, November 11 and we thought we would make good use of that day. We will meet here at church at 10:00 am to make a whole lot of sack lunches and then we are planning on heading downtown into Birmingham to pass them out and meet some new people in the process. We can’t wait. We ask you to be in prayer for us and join us if you’d like! We will return to the church about 2:30. Bring $10.00 for your own lunch!
Peace and Joy, Robin

Debbie Blue Food Pantry
Thanksgiving is a time of joyful celebration, yet also a time of reflection.  As Thanksgiving approaches, it is time to reflect with gratitude on the blessings and bounty that you’ve received.  It is also a time to consider those less fortunate and consider whether you can be of assistance to those that are in need.

At First Christian Church through our Debbie Blue Food Pantry, we are committed to providing assistance to needy families and individuals – not just during this Holiday season, but throughout the year.  We have more families seeking assistance than ever before.

This Sunday we will be handing out a grocery bag with an attached small list of our most immediate needs.  We are trying to supply our Pantry with specific items to provide a balanced food box to those in need. Please consider picking one up as you leave.  We ask that your donation be returned by November 16th.

Your generous support in the past and today will insure we can continue this much needed outreach ministry.

Blessings,
Steve Pasky
Outreach Mission Chair

Young At Heart
November 20 @ Huntsville's Lowe Mill
Calling all who are young at heart!  We are planning a trip to Huntsville’s recently remodeled Lowe Mill Arts and Entertainment center on Thursday, November 20. We will gather at church at 9:00 am, travel to Huntsville, and eat lunch somewhere yummy. Then we’ll spend a couple of hours visiting the vendors with beautiful crafts and creations, just in time for some early Christmas shopping.  We should be back at church about 5:30 pm. The only cost of the trip is your lunch (and whatever goodies you decided to buy), but we do ask you to sign up though the church office so we can plan transportation. If you have questions contact Robin robin@fcc-bhm.org or 205.991.5000.

Thank You!
Thanks to everyone who participated in our stewardship celebration on October 26. If you would still like to make an estimate of giving for 2015, you should have received a pledge card last week, or you can download one here; additional cards are available in the pews as well.  Feel free to place your card in the offering plate or return it to the church office during the week.  Thank you again for your generosity and faithfulness!

Photo Directory Update
Thanks to everyone who made an appointment, arrived on-time to get your photo taken, and willingly completed the information form that will equip us to better utilize FCC's new member database.

Special thanks to all who dedicated time and effort to help with this project:  Shaina and Joshua Berry who made appointments in the Narthex week after week; registration table volunteers Deb Carpenter, Barbara Wyrosdick, Lisa Burdette, Donna Penn, Janet Clark, Donna Strickland, Edith Carreras, Buzz and Nancy DeVore, Carole Rudd, Marian Moon, Sylvia and Charlie Almond, Clarissa Harms, Annie Franklin, Bebe Randell and Sandy Hamilton; Steve Pasky, Gary Franklin and Lloyd Smith who rearranged furniture in the Farkas and Gandy Room; Chris who organized everything needed from the church office; Robin and Troy who developed the member info form, compiled pictures of life at FCC and worked on the Directory design; and Garry Tyree who took many "life of the church" photos as well as pictures of folks who weren't able to get their professional photo taken.

Thanks to the efforts of these folks, very soon we will each appreciate having a wonderful new FCC pictorial directory with which we can get to know each other even better.  Please help me express gratitude to each of them!

If you were unable to get your picture taken but still want to be included in the directory, please notify me or Chris in the church office ASAP.
Ann Langley
Membership Mission Chair

Do you have church pictures?
We are looking for recent pictures taken of ministries at FCC for our new directory. If you have high resolution pictures (taken with a digital camera) we’d love to have copies.  Email Robin Blakemore if you have questions or pictures to share!

Let's Deck the Halls Together!
Advent is approaching and we’d like to invite you to join us as we prepare our space, our family, and our spirit for the coming season. Sunday, November 23 we will “Deck the Halls” from 4:30-6:30 PM, so come bring your family and a crock pot of soup to share. Praise Kids will rehearse at 4:30 PM and when they are done will have the opportunity to make Chrismon ornaments. At 6:00 PM we will share a meal of soup (with cornbread and dessert provided by the church) and the joy of experiencing the coming of Advent together.
Congregational Meeting
Our  annual congregational meeting is Sunday, November 23, at the conclusion of morning worship.  All members are encouraged to be present as we consider the 2015 budget, recommendations from the Nominating Committee, and any other news business.

You May Have Noticed a Few Changes in the Narthex...

The need for directional signs in the narthex was included as part of the 2014 Facility Improvements the Administration Mission has been overseeing.  As a small group came together to think about what directions guests might need when they visit for the first time, we began to look at the entire narthex space from a visitor’s point of view.  In light of that effort, we’ve made a few adjustments to the layout of the narthex with the goal of being able to better welcome guests, connect with visitors, and improve traffic flow.
  • We’ve moved the hospitality area from outside the office to the built-in cabinets between the sanctuary and the library.  Many of our visitors head straight for the sanctuary, and therefore weren’t seeing the snacks Mack Carpenter and the Fellowship Mission prepare each week.  This move should make the hospitality area more visible as people make their way to and from the sanctuary.
  • We’ve moved the nametag rack to the gym wall, just to the right of the new hospitality area.  This will give us more space to hang nametags that are on lanyards, and should be convenient for folks to pick up nametags on the way to Sunday School or as they visit the hospitality area before worship.  This will also help keep the appearance of the narthex neat and welcoming.
  • We’ve rearranged some of the furniture, most noticeably the Welcome Table, so that traffic will flow more freely without congestion in tight areas.
There are still a few more changes to come, including the directional signs that began this conversation.  We appreciate your flexibility as we seek to welcome all who come to worship and serve in this wonderful church.  Thank you so much for your support!
