Weekly highlights from LEGISTORM
Posted by Jake Harper on Nov. 3, 2014
While the result of tomorrow's mid-term election is anyone's guess, for some congressional candidates a win wouldn't mean their first visit to the Hill - they've worked there before.
 - Perhaps most prominently, Virginia Del. Barbara Comstock is fighting for Virginia's 10th District to replace retiring Republican Rep. Frank Wolf, her former boss. Comstock was an intern under Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) before going to work for Wolf for four years. She left Wolf's office for a position on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, where she worked under Rep. Dan Burton (R-Ind.) for another four years.
 - Republican banker French Hill is running for Congress in Arkansas' open Second District. Hill has a long history in politics. Early in his career, he worked for Sens. Jake Garn (R-Utah) and John Tower (R-Texas). He also served in the White House during President George H.W. Bush's tenure and under Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-Ark.).
 - Republican David Trott, a prominent foreclosure attorney, is vying for Michigan's open 11th District seat. Before climbing the ladder at his family's law firm, Trott worked in the D.C. office of Rep. Bill Broomfield (R-Mich.).
 - Rick Weiland, the Democratic Senate candidate for South Dakota who looks like more of a long shot as the election approaches, is certainly no stranger to congressional politics. Weiland served under Sen. Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) for more than 15 years before starting a political career of his own. Weiland has twice been a candidate for South Dakota's 1st Congressional District.
Still others might be able to call on the expertise of their relatives if elected.
Debbie Dingell, Democratic candidate for Michigan's 12th District, is married to current Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.). And in Georgia's tight Senate race, Democrat Michelle Nunn is the daughter of former Sen. Sam Nunn (D-Ga.).
