Hello <<Greeting>>!

Can you believe we've been living here in Germany now for more than three months?! With all of us in school and/or work full time, we're a busy family.
In this video…
  • We’re all learning German! Carrie just finished her second month of full-time language school. Sophie is in a German/English school that is about 75% German and she’s a language sponge. Jeff is in a high school level German 1 class five days a week, and Wesley’s in a Junior High level German class.
  • Jeff’s ministry opportunities keep growing.
    • Jeff made a connection with The Crescent Project, a ministry that helps Christians share Jesus with their M*slim neighbors. Jeff is exploring this relationship to see if we can partner with them to reach a wider audience.
    • Also, he's just been invited to be on the preparation team for ICCM-Europe 2015. So far, he's been given the role of Webmaster for the 2015 conference website. He hasn't started working on the official site yet, but you can visit the prototype here.
  • We had a chance to get away for a quick trip to Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria last month. It was nice to have family time and learn some local history! It is funny how much places like this remind us of Disneyland. We were surprised to discover that this castle is made of brick and wood covered in plaster; just like Disney's construction. Also, it was finished in 1886 which makes it only 69 years older than Disneyland (1955).
Thank you for your partnership and for watching our video! It is such a comfort to us knowing we have so many friends that are interested and invested in this ministry here in Germany. We're just getting started, but we're encouraged as we see God at work! Please pray for us to continue to bond with this new culture and language. Pray for us to have ears and eyes to see what the Lord is doing here.

Jeff & Carrie

False Friends

As we learn German, we’re fortunate that we can figure out the meaning of many words because they’re so similar to their English equivalents. Here are a few examples:

German English
das Haus House
der Morgen Morning
der Beginn Beginning

However, this isn’t always the case. In German, there are several words that look the same, but aren’t. These words are called "False Friends" and getting them wrong could be embarrassing or even deadly.

German English
Hell Bright
der Rock Skirt
der Kot Poop
der Mist Manure
das Gift Poison

An Impromptu Devotion
Every once-in-a-while we have family devotions. Earlier this week our time together took us to Psalm 46. This psalm tells of how God is in the midst of all earth's troubles. Then after talking about all these things that worry today's nightly news, God speaks and says, "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." (Psalm 46:10)

It is so comforting to know that even though the day is full of worry and hardships, God will still be glorified through it all. What worries you? What keeps you awake at night? What dread are you facing? Know that God is there with you. And, somehow and in some real and tangible way, God will be glorified in the midst of all that anxiety and fear! Be at rest, because our God reigns!
