The Riverview
November 2014

Welcome!

Welcome to the new online Riverview Newsletter!  We hope to put something like this out at least quarterly going forward.  Please forward this email to friends and neighbors who are not currently getting emails from us, and please share your feedback to stroudwatervillageassociation@gmail.com .

Since this is our first attempt at an online newsletter, we thought we'd keep it simple and focused on upcoming events, since there's a good deal going on in the city and neighborhood that you may be interested in.  In future editions, we hope to include more historical and neighborhood interest content.  Interested in writing?  Please let us know!

News from the Tate House

If you’ve gone by the Tate House lately you may have seen big lumps covered by white plastic sheets on the lawn, and wondered what was going on.  Historical archaeologists are excavating before the lawn is completely dug up to improve the drainage and help dry out the basement.  The Maine Historical Society recommends this step to preserve fragments of the past that may lie beneath the top soil before the earth movers arrive.  There will be a complete inventory of the discoveries available soon, but for now you might be interested to know that shards of pottery, flint nodules, and the remains of what is perhaps the original walkway leading to the front door have been unearthed so far.

The cemetery tours and bake sales were very successful again this year.  The Tate House Museum Gift Shop will be participating in the Museum Shoppers Day at Gilsland Farms Audubon headquarters in Falmouth from 9 to 3 on Saturday, November 8th.  Come shop early for the holidays - there are some wonderful, unique gifts awaiting you.

Tate House is closed for tours for the season, but will open again in late May for the summer.

Stay Involved!

Many thanks to all who came out to the first-ever Stroudwater Village Neighborhood Jam Session and Cookout in September!  We hope to do more events in the future and would like to hear from you about the kinds of events you are interested in.

Thanks for reading the Riverview online!
