Mercer Predicts a Texas TEA Party Tsunami

I laughed in the Spring of 2014  when the statewide print media implied that the “TEA Party in Texas is Dead!”  After the Primary runoffs these same editorial boards were at a loss for words to explain how TEA Party-backed conservatives handily defeated better funded GOP establishment candidates.

Then in the General Election endorsements, one local “excuse for news” seemed to attack the principles and values of TEA Party supported candidates for state office.  For example, my friends Greg Abbott, Dan Patrick, Ken Paxton, Glenn Hegar, and Sid Miller were not endorsed by my local newspaper.

Well, I predict TEA Party Republicans will headline a “Red State Tsunami Slaughter of the Far Left.”

TEA Party favorites should easily “Cruz” to victory. In fact, I further predict a “Statewide Sweep” -- meaning at the end of the Election night, all twenty-nine statewide offices, from Governor Abbott and U.S. Senator John Cornyn to the Texas Supreme Court and Court of Appeals – will be held by Republicans.

And here is one personal pick that will rile the print media.  Konni Burton, a TEA Party, pro-life, pro-gun conservative, will win her battle to move Wendy Davis’s old State Senate seat to the “R” column.    This is a tough race because there is a Libertarian candidate and “Ls” typically take 2-5% from Republican candidates.   If Burton can overcome the third party voters, she will have a huge victory and signal a long, long night for Democrats.

Finally, for my GOP friends in Bexar County, all eyes are upon the races of Carlton Soules (County Judge) and Susan Reed (District Attorney).  But here is one test -- if Rick Galindo (State Rep. 117) can upset the Democrat incumbent,  that will set in motion a Bexar GOP sweep that will spell a very, very painful night for Bexar County Democrats.
