Welcome to Katie and Dylan!

We love bringing guests to town and this week we're very excited to be hosting Katie Lane and Dylan Meconis. A big thanks to the Friends of the Juneau Public Libraries for their support and work on this as well! Yay libraries!

Katie is a lawyer who works with creative types to help them with their work-for-hire contracting and Dylan is an Eisner nominated comic artist who is also a part of Periscope studios, the largest studio of freelance comics professionals in North America! Cool people! Here they are in cartoon form...

First Friday, November 7th

Dylan is our featured artist on First Friday and we'll have a bunch of her comics and panels on display. It's a great chance to come meet both her and Katie in a casual, cheese-and-crackers environment before the weekend workshops.

At 7:00pm, after the art walk, we'll be heading over to the downtown public library for an introductory lecture where Dylan and Katie will tell us a bit more about their background and how they ended up doing what they do.

Saturday Workshops!

Katie and Dylan are each hosting a Saturday workshop at the Douglas Library. Here's the rundown and both of them are totally FREE!

"How to be a Negotiation Ninja"
10am-Noon – Douglas Library
*Note - Library is closed but meeting room will open at 9:45am.

This informative and fun program will teach you how to effectively handle negotiations with clients, collaborators, bosses and adversaries. You'll learn how to ask for what you want, how to find out what the other side wants, how to take control in a negotiation and, of course,  how to be awesome while doing all of it.

Designed especially for people who are intimidated by negotiation and conflict, this presentation will be useful no matter what your current negotiation comfort level is. You'll walk away with easy to use tools and the confidence to negotiate your rate, handle a demanding client and get what you need. Come with questions!

"Character Design from the Inside Out"
1:30pm-3:30pm - Douglas Library

This drawing workshop is recommended for adults, high school students and or bookish middle schoolers.

It's fun to design visually fantastic characters to stand out on a page. But how do you make a character's inside equally striking and memorable? How can you build characters who will generate their own original stories, instead of just being cogs in a plot?

We'll use ideas and exercises from theatrical costume design, Swedish storytelling games, science fiction writing, and yes, even comic books to find out.

You can bring a sketchbook and pen or use the materials provided by the library.

Important Drawing Night Update!

Our regular drawing night this week has moved to Thursday from 6pm to 8pm at the gallery. We have a model confirmed so there will be a $5 charge. Maybe we can talk Dylan into joining us too!
