Attend the Charting the Future Gallery Walk on Nov. 7
The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system's Gallery Walk tour will be at Bemidji State from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, in the Crying Wolf Room.
The Gallery Walk is an open house-style event for everyone at Bemidji State to share insights, concerns and ideas. For a preview of what will be displayed during the event, there is an online version of the Gallery Walk at the system's Charting the Future blog.
The event will illustrate what has been achieved so far by the four Charting the Future implementation teams that began their work in the spring: Diversity, Student Success,Comprehensive Workplace Solutions, and System Incentives and Rewards.
More than 1,600 people have visited CTF Gallery Walks since the system-wide tour began Oct. 16 at Pine Technical College in Pine City.

Bemidji State University’s Department of Music will host a performance of the Minnesota National Guard’s 34th Infantry Division “Red Bulls†Concert Band as part of a free Veteran’s Day tribute concert at 3 p.m. Nov. 10 in Bangsberg Hall.
The band will arrive in Bemidji on a pair of CH-47 Chinook cargo helicopters, which will land on the BSU football practice fields on the west side of the Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center at approximately 1 p.m. on the day of the concert. The band will depart on the helicopters between 4:30-5 p.m. following the show.

America's Christmas begins in Bemidji
One of the country’s most famous Christmas trees was packaged at Bemidji State in preparation for its journey to the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C.
The tree, cut from Minnesota’s Chippewa National Forest, spent three days in the John Glas Fieldhouse, where it was packaged by student volunteers before departing for the Capitol on Nov. 3.

Laurel Honors House reconstruction underway
Bemidji State University, Northwest Technical College and a number of other partners are constructing a new home on the site of the university’s former Laurel Honors House residence. The home, which is being built primarily by students in NTC’s trades and construction programs with support from professional contractors, will serve as a shared living and learning community for students in BSU’s honors program. The new Laurel House is scheduled to be completed this spring.

Redesigned website set for late November launch
Work continues on the redesign of the Bemidji State website, with plans for launch of the new homepage and a first group of academic and student-service department pages in late November.
Representatives of the university's partner on the project, White Whale Web Services, visited BSU on Oct. 7-9 to present the completed design and meet with departments whose sites will be created in coming months. After the initial launch, departmental pages will be rolled out through the end of March. White Whale will return to campus on Dec. 9-10 for more departmental meetings and training.

Lynda.com training now available to entire campus community
 The Bemidji State and NTC campus communities now have the ability to view more than 2,500 training videos on a broad range of subjects, including business skills, music and video production, Microsoft Office products, operating systems and computer-aided drafting. New courses are added weekly.

Students install new trail signage at Hobson Memorial Forest
In October, a group of Bemidji State students led by Dr. Patrick Donnay, professor of political science, improved cross-country ski trails at BSU’s Hobson Memorial Forest with new signage.
The project began to take shape in 2013 through a collaboration between BSU and the Bemidji Cross-Country Ski Club. Earlier this year, three BSU students under the direction of Dr. Jill Stackhouse, professor of geography, remapped the forest’s seven kilometers of trails using GPS. That work was the basis for improved trail maps featured on the new signs. A group of six BSU students and one student from Northwest Technical College worked on the installation with Donnay and ski club member Doug Williams.

The Honors Council Lecture Series is hosted by the Bemidji State University Honors Council. The council is the advisory group to the honors program composed of 12 faculty members representing each of the university’s colleges. Student representatives are also elected to the council by their cohorts for one-year terms.

Beavers earn Homecoming lake jump with 31-17 win over Minot State
For the 15th time since starting its now-famed tradition in 1995, the BSU football team earned a plunge into Lake Bemidji with a resounding 31-17 victory over Minot State during the university's annual Homecoming game on Oct. 18.

Faculty and staff admitted free to upcoming home athletic events
The Department of Athletics would like to extend an invitation for all faculty and staff to join us as our guests at the following events:
• Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. to see the BSU football team "Battle for the Axe†against Minnesota State University Moorhead
• Nov. 21 for a BSU basketball doubleheader against Mayville State University. The women's game begins at 6 p.m., with the men's game following at approximately 8 p.m.
All BSU and Northwest Technical College faculty and staff will receive free admission for themselves and one guest when presenting a valid BSU or NTC ID at the gates.

North Star College Cup ticket deadline extended
 Minnesota's Division I hockey programs representing Bemidji State, Minnesota State University, the University of Minnesota and the University of Minnesota Duluth will descend on the Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul, Jan. 23-24, to battle for the second annual North Star College Cup. BSU faces off against Minnesota Duluth while Minnesota tackles Minnesota State on Jan. 23, with the winners of both games and a consolation contest slated for Jan. 24.
All-session passes are available for $80; BSU Athletics will receive $70 from the price of each ticket purchased prior to Nov. 15.
