We have many thanks to share with our supporters, the Oakland community, and our leaders for accomplishments in 2014:
We’re getting more people walking and bicycling at car-free street events in two neighborhoods: Golden Gate and Lake Merritt/Uptown, and at monthly Oakland Urban Pathswalks. Both are free, fun, and transformational!
We’re helping Oaklanders build walking and bicycling into their daily routine by supporting one of the biggest Bike To Work Daysin recent memory and at our inaugural Walk To Work Day.
We’re supporting the local economy by encouraging our city to re-open the parklets pilot where local businesses build mini-parks in spaces that would have been reserved for car parking, by helping businesses know how to request bike racks and corrals.
We helped author and pass a city ordinance to protect bicyclists and pedestrians from harassment and threats.
We’re continuing to closely monitorall area plans that are redeveloping, repaving and building in communities to ensure the best designs are implemented for the walking and bicycling community.
We’re also seeing results.
Walkways, such as the Davidson Stairs in the Grand Lake neighborhood, are back in pristine order.
Broadway north of 38th has been repaved and reconfigured with bike lanes. Green paint is dappled through tricky intersections that are getting rave reviews from bicyclists and drivers.
And The League of American Bicyclists has just decided to designate Oakland as a Bicycle Friendly Community at the Silver level.
You’ll see even more project delivered in 2015, about $30 million of projects:
1.Oakland’s 1st protected bikeway on Telegraph Avenue in KONO District
2.Designs of a buffered bikeways on Oak and Madison as part of the Lake Merritt BART Station Area Plan
3.The launch of the Downtown Circulation Study which includes a new protected bikeway on Broadway, connecting Telegraph’s new bikeways to Jack London Square and reconversion of one-way streets to much calmer and more efficient two-way streets
4.A 7th St Streetscape project that will be done right and continue the connection of West Oakland BART to Downtown Oakland
5.Maxwell Park neighborhood finally gets a walkable and bikable neighborhood connection to the Laurel District
6.East Bay Greenway becomes the best multi-use pathway in the Bay Area, extending its connection from Coliseum BART to San Leandro

Dana moved to Oakland in 2007 when she traded in her auto commute for a daily bike ride, and she hasn’t looked back.
With nine years of professional experience in the nonprofit arena, Dana currently manages the AmeriCorps program at Playworks.
While completing her Master of Public Health, Dana partnered with the Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools program to plan and implement a qualitative study on how to market biking, walking and carpooling to youth.
Dana is passionate about the need for “complete streets” which are designed to make all modes of transportation safe, accessible, and enjoyable for the entire community.
Dana is often found exploring Oakland by foot or bicycle in her spare time.
Bill Liembach
Bill is a retired (33 years active) Deloitte and Touche, LLP partner who was primarily an audit partner, but also worked a number of consulting engagements usually with companies facing economic difficulties and governance issues.
He really likes the idea of making Oakland and surrounding communities bike friendly.
Casey Hildreth
Casey is a multi-modal transportation planner (M.U.P. University of Washington 2009) with over 10 years’ experience in the non-profit advocacy, public sector, and private consulting worlds.
In this time he has managed or led planning efforts at virtually all scales and phases of bicycle, pedestrian, traffic calming/Safe Routes to School, transit (streetcar and BRT), and multi-modal safety projects: from long range specific and master plans to capital project delivery to grant writing and program/project evaluation.
Professional highlights include interdepartmental public realm planning in Seattle, bicycle/pedestrian overpass feasibility and concept design projects in the South Bay, and my current work at the SFMTA planning protected bikeways and traffic-calmed local streets.
Join us for the Temescal Alleys Holiday Artisan Fair this year, where New Normal Brewing Company will be pouring beer to benefit Walk Oakland Bike Oakland!
TheTemescal Alleyshop owners will be showcasing some of their favorite local makers. Delicious food provided by Kronner Burger and WOBO will also be hosting a donation based gift wrapping station.
