HMC are recruiting a new Destitution Coordinator

Hackney Migrant Centre (HMC) are a weekly drop-in advice service for refugees and other vulnerable migrants. We are seeking a new Destitution Coordinator to help us support a growing number of destitute migrants. The post holder will advise and coordinate support for these visitors, liaise with other agencies and develop appropriate strategies to alleviate their immediate hardship and lift them out of destitution. This will include direct advice and referrals during the session, and supporting volunteers and interns with their advocacy work. The post holder will also take some cases on and offer and follow-up support outside of the session.

This is a new position and we are looking for someone who can show a demonstrable commitment to advising and supporting refugees and migrants out of destitution and who is motivated to help us develop our destitution work. HMC is a small grass roots organisation and the ideal applicant will be used to working in a small organisation with volunteers and a wide range of partner agencies and be able to find creative solutions to the difficult situations many of the visitors to our service face.

This is a three year part-time post (21 hours) funded by a grant from the Metropolitan Migration Foundation.
