Keeping Kentville Connected
Wylie Rockwell began his career working for TP Calkin Limited – a hardware store here in Kentville. Wylie ended up marrying his boss’ sister, Nellie. When in 1910, after working at TP Calkin’s for nearly 40 years, he decided to open his own hardware business in Kentville, he did so with their blessings. This became Rockwell's Home Hardware (now Kings County Home Hardware).

If you look in the sidewalk in front of Wylie's original store (now Valley Stove & Cycle), you can see the metal plates bearing the name ROCKWELL. In fact, when the new sidewalks were laid not too long along, Rockwell’s then owners insisted that these plates remain as a reminder that this was once Wylie Rockwell’s block.

Wiley died in 1921 and is buried at Oak Grove Cemetery. Employees of Rockwell's Home Hardware claim that his spirit never left the building as they have had many strange encounters! Stop into the new Kings County Home Hardware location on the South Side of Main Street to ask them about it!
