Come with me to The Hepworth Wakefield for a Christmas market, plus how do you ink a collagraph?

A new arrival in the studio

Late last month I took delivery of my new pride and joy - a beautiful etching press built for me by Hawthorn Printmaker.  It was a big investment, both in terms of money and the space it takes up, but absolutely worth it.  It is a dream to use and means I am able to make intaglio prints again, something that has not been available to me while I've been without access to a roller press.  As well as rediscovering some old plates I made years ago and using those again, the first new print I have produced with the press is the collagraph to the right. The eagle eyed might recognise the image as one I designed for a woodcut print earlier in the year; I've enjoyed reworking it in this new medium.

FREE ENTRY

*The Christmas Market and activities are also running on the Sunday but because of prior commitments I will be there only on Saturday.

Robin Nest collagraph by Jane Duke

Robin Nest

This collagraph is a variable edition of just seven prints.  The inks were applied and blended on the plate by hand for each print (see below) so no two are identical.  The first is now available to purchase on Etsy.

How did you do that?

Inking up a collagraph plate ready for printing is a complicated process which you might not often get a chance to see, so I've put together a series of photos showing how the 'Robin Nest' print was made.

Workshop update

I am very pleased to have been asked to lead another watercolour day at Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens in June.  It's a lovely location and we're hoping for better weather this time so we can make the most of the beautiful surroundings!  For more information or to book please click here to visit the Gardens' website.

Meanwhile booking has been brisk for the 2015 workshops announced in the last newsletter. Be sure you don't miss out; to see what is still available please pop over to the workshops page of my website.

Best wishes

Jane
