Have you always wondered what it would be like to be a burlesque dancer? Want to tap into your inner showgirl/boy?
Black Orchid, The Transoceanic Tropical Tease (San Antonio, TX) will lead you through a fun crash course in bump and grind dance, clothing removal and stage presence, culminating in a short and sassy strip-tease choreography. Come and set your inner diva free!
Black Orchid AKA Shimarella AKA s.t.shimi is a foxy brown performance artist who has been performing burlesque for over five years all over Texas on stages beyond. She won Best Use of Novelty/Prop at The Texas Burlesque Festival (2014), and has been an instructor in the performing arts for close to two decades.

Leeway's Board President Amadee L. Braxton, Executive Director Denise Brown, and Leeway Board Member Tina Morton (LTA '06, ACG '06, '05) wrote tributes to the life and legacy of Black feminist, writer, and scholar Toni Cade Bambara for The Feminist Wire. Amadee writes about community building and learning from Toni in My TCB Experience 1991-1995; Denise's piece focuses on the struggle for liberation in For Toni and Sisterhood, with Love; and Tina writes about the importance of meeting Toni in her essay, Permission.
