Lesson 470: Never Too Late to Serve, Pt.1

Sometimes our unplanned, brief acts of service to God can have tremendous impact.

In Neh.2:1-6, Nehemiah was visibly discouraged that Jerusalem was in ruins.

But he prayed the shortest of prayers 2:4 and received the decree to rebuild the city.

A century earlier, the prophet Daniel foretold this event in Dan.9:25. Isaac Newton wrote that even if the Bible only contained this one verse, we would know it was written by the true God.

Daniel accurately foretold the exact number of days between 2 events: Nehemiah’s prayer, and the day that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the donkey (Palm Sunday, triumphal entry).

A tiny prayer started the clock ticking to fulfill one of the greatest prophecies in Scripture.

When we honor the lifelong service of “great” Christians, it may discourage new believers.

Those who were saved late in life, or those who matured in faith only recently, may feel that they “missed the boat” and squandered their opportunity to be useful to God.

But imagine if Martin Luther felt that other Christians had already finished all the important work.

About This Series

The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21

- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work
