Hello from UIT Cambridge

We have been busy here recently, as we are not only working on some exciting new titles in the 'without the hot air' series, but last year we also bought Green Books, a respected publisher of books about environmentalism and sustainability, for over 25 years.

Annual Simonyi Lecture
Prof David MacKay, author of Sustainable Energy - without the hot air, is giving the annual Charles Simonyi Lecture in Oxford, this Friday 14th November 2014. David will discuss how the laws of physics constrain our energy options, and will describe what happened when his reflections on energy arithmetic propelled him into a senior civil service role. Find out more here.

Videos
Our authors are not only experts in their fields, they are also passionate about their subjects - and frequently videoed at speaking opportunities. Here are some highlights:
  • Watch Prof David MacKay talk about Sustainable Energy at Harvard University here.
  • ProfJulian Allwood, co-author of Sustainable Materials - with both eyes open gave a TedX talk at Cambridge University, talking about our possibilities for reducing climate change, which you can view here.
  • Prof David Nutt was part of a debate on 'Facts and Fantasy' at the HowTheLightGetsIn festival earlier in 2014. You can view a video of the debate here.
Professor David Nutt wins Transmission Prize 2014
We are very pleased to say that Prof David Nutt, author of Drugs - without the hot air  was awarded the Transmission Prize for the communication of important ideas earlier this year.

This highly acclaimed book also won the Highly Commended award in the Popular Medicine category at the British Medical Association awards ceremony at BMA House in London, in 2013.

Forthcoming Titles
We are currently working on a number of new titles, including two volumes on Sustainable Transport - without the hot air. Volume 1 looks at the UK, and Volume 2 at the USA. A second edition of Sustainable Materials is also due out in late 2015, providing an update and some new material.

We'll send you more information about these nearer the time, or download our catalogue below.
