2014 William Hunting Award honours development of a low-cost, heat-stable Newcastle Disease vaccine tablet
The 2014 William Hunting Award was recently presented to a cadre of scientists for their crucial work in developing a low-cost, heat-stable vaccine tablet formulation for Newcastle disease, one of the biggest threats to rural poultry globally.
The award-winning paper, "Development of a Low-Dose Fast-Dissolving Tablet Formulation of Newcastle Disease Vaccine for Low-Cost Backyard Poultry Immunisation" was a collaboration with GALVmed, PATH, the Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory of the United States Department of Agriculture and the University of Washington.
The William Hunting Award is presented annually to a research paper considered to have made the most useful contributions to veterinary science that year.

GALVmed employee elected board member of Scotland Malawi Partnership
GALVmed’s Assistant Director for Business Development, Stuart Brown has been elected as a board member of the Scotland Malawi Partnership (SMP).
"The Scotland Malawi Partnership is an organisation I admire because of its consultative and listening approach, pragmatic member representation and efficacy," said Stuart (pictured far left in above photo). "I feel privileged to join its board. It will be a learning experience for me and a time in which I hope to be able to share some of the insights that I have gained (and continue to) from GALVmed colleagues."
GALVmed is a member of The Scotland Malawi Partnership which inspires people and organisations of Scotland to be involved with Malawi in an informed, coordinated and effective way so that both nations benefit.

GALVmed welcomes new staff
It's been a busy autumn for GALVmed as we have welcomed six new staff members in our Edinburgh, Nairobi and New Delhi offices!
We welcome two new colleagues to our Research and Development department in September: Jeremy Salt, our new Senior Director of Research and Development and Dr Rose Peter, our Trypanosomosis Programme Manager.
We have also expanded our Communications department, which now consists of two new colleagues: Beatrice Ouma, our Communications Manager and Heather Irish, our Communications Officer. Our Edinburgh-based Finance department welcomed Management Accountant John McGovern in October.
GALVmed's South Asia office in New Delhi also welcomed Dr Rahul Srivastava, our new Marketing Officer for South Asia. Learn more about our new staff.

GALVmed at the 6th All Africa Conference on Animal Agriculture
GALVmed was a co-sponsor of the 6th All Africa Conference on Animal Agriculture (AACAA), which took place from 27th-30th October 2014 in Nairobi. More than 300 delegates from 20 countries gathered to discuss challenges and solutions to the African animal agricultural sector.
Dr Hameed Nuru, GALVmed's Senior Director for Policy and External Affairs gave the AACAA keynote speech in which he challenged the participants to develop tangible solutions that will address the challenges that plague the livestock sector in Africa.
