3) Group Webinar: Connecting the Dots: Understanding and Addressing the Links between Multiple Forms of Violence

Date: Thursday, November 20, 2014, 3:00-4:30pm
Where: Media Room (lower level of the Shaw Building, 95 Rochford Street, Charlottetown)

If you are interested in participating in this group webinar, please RSVP to mdharris-genge@gov.pe.ca, by tomorrow, November 14. There is no cost to attend this webinar. NOTE: SPACE IS LIMITED so please RSVP early to guarantee a space.

About the Webinar:
Different types of violence are connected and often share the same root causes. They can also all take place under one roof, in the same community or neighborhood, at the same time, or at different stages of life. Understanding the overlapping causes of violence and the things that can protect people and communities is important, and can help us better address violence in all its forms.

"Connecting the Dots: An Overview of the Links between Multiple Forms of Violence" is a new resource co-developed by CDC's Division of Violence Prevention and Prevention Institute. This webinar highlights key content from this resource including the latest research on the connections between different forms of violence and how these connections affect communities.

4) Support a Documentary Project: "A Better Man"

From our PEI friends and colleagues Anne and Don Mazer comes this note:

"This week, my daughter-in-law, Attiya, launched a website for her documentary project concerning violence against women, 'A Better Man.' In this documentary, Attiya will tell her own story as a victim and survivor of abuse by her partner more than 20 years ago.

And Steve, the abusive partner will also speak about his experience and its impact. This is a bold, courageous and unique project, as Attiya and Steve face each other and open up a dialogue about this difficult time.

"Attiiya has assembled a group of very talented and experienced colleagues to work
with in making a film of high quality with the potential to have a significant impact on how we think about partner abuse and violence against women. Anne and I are very proud of her courage and commitment, and really believe that this project can make a difference. At this point, she is seeking help with funding for her project, and we encourage you to review her website and consider making a contribution to this effort. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/a-better-man.

"And please feel free to forward this letter and website to other people that you know who you think would be interested.

"We are in a moment of intense discussion and reflection about violence against women. Hopefully, it is also a time when many men are thinking about how they can take responsibility to find ways of changing men’s violence. This project offers us a perspective on a meaningful path toward such change. Thanks for your consideration in being part of this effort."
