The intention is to have a MAA “Gathering” of all of the related and affiliate schools. Martinez Academy of Arms, Palm Beach Classical Fencing, Côte du Golfe School of Fencing, Salle St. George, Destreza Pacifica, Golden Gate Fencing, Humboldt State, Purchase College, and Provost Baiman’s Students

All students from MAA, affiliate and related schools are encouraged to participate. It is our intention to host this type of event once every 7 yrs only. This will be a rare opportunity to fence with other fencers who are trained in the same manner.  With some 300 potential participants, there will be fencers of all levels for you to fence with.

The entire event is being called the "Academia", but only a small part of it will be open to the public. The portion that is open to the public we will be referring to as the "Formal Academia". We are still in the early planning stages but here is an idea of what to expect:

All Provosts will teach a class.  All Instructors are expected to assist.
  • Classes
    • All inclusive class where all students will participate
    • Smaller specialized classes
  • Free Assaults
  • Lectures
  • Demonstrations
  • Academia (open to the public)
  • Formal Dinner
The highlight of the event will be a "Formal Academia” which is open to the public. That will include:
Grand Salute
Demonstrations
Assaults
  • Each student is expected to bring the weapons that they fence.
  • The student will not know what weapon or whom they will face until it is announced at the Formal Academia.
  • All assaults are expected to show clarity in the actions, precision in timed actions, regularity (meaning, exact, orthodox execution) and self-control. The jury will hold each pair to the highest standards.
Maestro Martinez will preside as Director
Students chosen to be in the public assaults must earn the honor. We will be evaluating all the students through out the year.  The selections will be announced ahead of time. Prizes will be award.

Died October 20, 2014

We are sadden to announce that one of our past student and dear friend has passed away.

Fawzi Sami Al-Nawal was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1956. He held a BA from New York University and an MA in International Relations from John Hopkins University. He was a professional commercial diver working on oil rigs. He worked as a political liaison for the Qatar mission to the United Nations and spent the last 10 years working for a Credit Risk Monitor. He was a student at Martinez Academy for 4 years. Although his job prevented him from continuing to fence, he was a founding member of the AHF as well as an active member of the Board of Directors.  He was also the tournament director for the Grand Assault for several years.

An open house celebrating his life will be held on Sunday November 16th, 2014. From 12 noon to 6pm at: 1015 County Road 619, Newton NJ 070860
