One of the many aspects of being a business owner is the need to constantly evaluate your business and the market place. I personally like to do this on a regular basis, even if I don’t always like to see the results. As my business continues to evolve, it is becoming apparent that fans of my designs are not buying my patterns through online venues such as Etsy and Craftsy, but are choosing to make their purchases at their local needlework shops and other large online retailers that sell my charts (which these locations get through my wholesaler). With that being said, I have made the decision to close my Etsy shop as of December 31, 2014. I already said goodbye to Craftsy before Thanksgiving. If PDF patterns are your preference, now is your chance to get them, especially as some of my designs may possibly be "retired" with the closing of my shop.
I will continue designing, will be on my Facebook page daily and will continue distributing this newsletter announcing my new charts on a regular basis. One of the changes I’ll be making to the newsletter will be to spotlight local needlework shops (or online retailers) where you can purchase my patterns. I’ve heard a lot of people say they don’t shop at their LNS because they don’t stock things they want to buy. Most LNS owners have a limited budget to work with when it comes to bringing in new designs, so if they don’t know you want something, they may not be stocking works from that designer. DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK. On multiple occasions I’ve seen a customer walk up to the owner with a picture or name of something they’ve seen online and the owner has been more than happy to get that chart for them.
