.... your home away from home.
Dear ECCS-BC Members and Friends,

With the first issue of Nile Fraser, I'd like to thank you, ECCS-BC loyal supporters, for your continued contributions to our Canadian Community of Egypt LOVERS.

I've learned a lot from your feedback since I was privileged with my fellow Board Members with taking charge of the Society last September.  I've learned that you don't only share your love for Egypt, but you are also quite passionate about your Community here in BC. I've learned that with so many talents and professionals, our Society enjoys a wealth of opportunities for mutual business development and networking. I've also learned that all of you are more than willing to join and give a hand in ECCS-BC thrive for success should the opportunity arise. and NOW is that moment.

With an increasing number of Members and Friends, our first challenge became to institutionalize our society with clear Vision, Mission and Values. We have all come up with our Strategic Framework, as published in this issue of Nile Fraser. Please review it and with pride in our Values,  let's all work together fulfilling our Mission to reach up to our Vision soon Insha'Allah.

This is your first issue of your quarterly Journal, Nile Fraser, as a special introductory issue, and we do look forward to your contributions in the future issues of Nile Fraser.

Thanks and enjoy your Journal,

Sincerely,

Salah El-Kahtib
President, ECCS-BC

EGYPT, NILE, FRASER?

EGYPT...The name

The English name Egypt  is derived from the Ancient Greek Aígyptos, via Middle French Egypte and Latin  Aegyptus. was borrowed into Coptic as gyptios, and from there into Arabic as qubṭī, back formed into قبط qubṭ,. The Greek forms were borrowed from  huptiōs , meaning "below the Aegean".

The ancient Egyptian name of the country was km.t, which means black ground or black soil, referring to the fertile black soils of the Nile flood plains, distinct from the deshret , or "red land" of the desert. This name is commonly vocalised as Kemet, but was probably pronounced [kuːmat] in ancient Egyptian.

Miṣr (IPA: [mesˤr]) is the Classical Quranic Arabic and modern official name of Egypt, while Maṣr is the Egyptian-local pronunciation in the Egyptian Arabic. The name is of Semitic origin, directly cognate with other Semitic words for Egypt such as the Hebrew  (Mitzráyim).  The word originally connoted "metropolis" or "civilization" and means "country", or "frontier-land".

Fraser

The Fraser River named for Simon Fraser, who led an expedition on behalf of the North West Company from the site of present-day Prince George to the mouth of the river. It is the longest river within British Columbia, Canada, rising at Fraser Pass near Mount Robson in the Rocky Mountains and flowing for 1,375 kilometers, into the Strait of Georgia at the city of Vancouver. It is the tenth longest river in Canada.

NILE

The English name Nile and the Arabic names en-Nîl  both derive from the Latin Nilus and the Ancient Greek Νεῖλος. Another  etymology derives it from a Semitic Nahal, meaning "river".

Regarded as the longest river in the world, ( 6,853 km long), Nile resources are shared by, Tanzania,  Uganda,  Rwanda,  Burundi, Congo,  Kenya,  Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Sudan, Sudan  and Egypt. In particular, the Nile is the primary water source of Egypt and Sudan.

Egyptian civilization and Sudanese kingdoms have depended on the river since ancient times. Most of the population and cities of Egypt lie along those parts of the Nile valley north of Aswan, and nearly all the cultural and historical sites of Ancient Egypt are found along riverbanks.
