Meet Sai, Education Team Member

From a rural Tai Lao family, Sai Thatsamanee grew up in a village in Chomphet District, across the Mekong River from Luang Prabang. He joined TAEC over two years ago and works at the front desk, leads tours of the exhibits, and visits schools as part of the TAEC Education Team.

Sai says, “I am happy when I visit the schools and I enjoy sharing about the many ethnic groups in Laos.” In November, the Education Team reached over 350 students through classroom visits at five primary schools. “For a one hour visit we sing a song, teach about the ethnic diversity in Laos and solve puzzles” he explains. Children may wear a handmade Oma vest or a Tai Dam scarf and learn how Kmhmu and Hmong people use baskets and bags they make from natural materials to carry wood and other items from the forest to their homes or from their homes to the fields.

Classes are invited to visit TAEC for a tour and scavenger hunt. Transportation for these visits can be a challenge, as schools in Luang Prabang do not have school buses or other ways to bring the children to visit the museum. TAEC assists in paying for tuk-tuks to bring the students to visit the museum. We look forward to welcoming more students to TAEC!

The Prince of Denmark Visits TAEC

On 15 November, His Royal Highness Prince Joachim of Denmark and a delegation of CARE International officials visited TAEC. Tara and Khoun welcomed the delegation and provided a guided tour.

As a patron for CARE Denmark, the Prince of Denmark visited sites in Laos to gain a deeper understanding of Lao culture and the work carried out by CARE International. We are honored that CARE International arranged for HRH Prince Joachim to visit TAEC and learn more about the diverse ethnic groups in Lao and the challenges they face.
