Do you remember the first time you went travelling? Or is that first time still about to happen?

Either way, you probably had or have tons of questions filling your head:

  • Where should I go?
  • What should I organise in advance?
  • Should I travel alone or with someone else?
  • How much money do I need?
  • What do I need to pack?
  • How do I make friends on the road?
  • ...

To sum it up... where do I START???

When I was preparing my first solo trip to Japan and Australia in 2006, I searched all around the internet looking for travellers who preceded me. I tried to read as many experiences and tips as I could find to make my own journey as perfect as possible. Even though there weren't many websites then that talked about travelling as a backpacker, the stories I could find gave me lots of support.

I got a lot of energy and inspiration from the stories of other travellers and knew I was about to do something insanely special.

Every journey is personal. You will get out of it what's most important to you.

That's why I cannot give you the ultimate guide for the perfect trip, as every journey is different for each person. You might have different time to spend in a certain place, leave at a different moment in your life, choose another route, have other interests in activities and meet other people on the road.

Travel is about what happens in the moment.

But even though I cannot give you a blueprint on HOW to travel, I can help you choose your ideal travel style and help you cover some of the basics in terms of preparation.

With my own travel experience and having worked with all types of travellers for multiple years (both in hostels as through my own websites), I can give you some guidelines to make conscious choices and enhance your travel experience even more!

You can already start planning your next trip today by reading the following resources on The Travel Tester, but in the Month of March I will add plenty more tips that hopefully help you on your way. If there is anything in specific you would like me to write about, please let me know by replying to this email. Thanks!
