Stars & Promises Tour 2014

Happy Thanksgiving!

A belated Happy Thanksgiving to all of you from Nashville, TN. I hope you and yours arrived safely to your family gathering whether it was two of you or 20. If you felt blissfully overwhelmed, tragically happy, and joyfully resentful, join the club. This is what families do really well! After many holidays, and Thanksgiving and Christmas are at the top of my list, I’ve adopted the notion that most of the uncomfortable moments over the years are things I end up being most thankful for down the line (I said most, not all). I saw “Interstellar” with my family yesterday. What a great movie. It’s about stepping off your rock to find something better, to go to great lengths to save what’s most precious to you and all of us. The result of which is usually a greater appreciation for what we have right here and what has been present all along.  My wish for you is that the wonderful family ruckus you celebrated this Thanksgiving moves you just enough to see where we are, in good and tough times, thankfully.  God bless you and yours this Holiday Season.

We spent our Thanksgiving in Nashville enjoying the new room in our house, the result of a year long remodeling project that had us perfecting our camping skills and stress management (these are luxurious problems to have I know). Included in that remodel is my own mancave-music-mad scientist-test tube boiling-chart topping, dream machine oilin’ -rabbit hole and a string-ringing mini studio. The desired end result was to not to make it pro, but to have it be a place you long to go, safe and sound within some parallel universe where everyone is shakin’ their hips to Beyonce, Bing, Elvis, Ella, Bill Evans and Elgar, Rachmaninoff, Little Richard and Robert Johnson. Heck, let’s throw in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Stars & Promises 2014 - Evergreen

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! We’re stepping into rehearsals for this year’s Stars and Promises tour. It’s called “Evergreen” and will feature new songs and old faves from over the years. The tradition of the Christmas tree through Christendom and traditions the world over point to life, our connection to the Timeless through the passing of the seasons, Hope and strength amidst the dark days of winter.  I can remember my mother having the workers at our compound in India slide in the huge potted pine tree that somehow survived the 114 degree Indian summers. She hung the colored lights and put cotton on the branches to simulate a gift she wasn’t going to receive in southern India… a good northern Illinois snow like she had in her childhood. The eight of us children would march in the living room Christmas Eve night singing German Christmas carols. My father would read to us the Christmas Story from the first chapters of Luke and then it was time to open the gifts. It all happened and continues to happen in traditions around the Christmas tree, the evergreen in so many homes around the world.

We will be traveling with the incredible group of musicians that I’m proud to call my band this Christmas: R. Scott Bryan on percussion and vocals, Mark Holland on flutes and wind instruments, Chris Walters on piano and accordion, Zeb Briskovich on bass, Brendan Mayer on vocals and guitar, and we welcome this year a fabulous violin player, Alicia Enstrom, who has performed with groups such as Barrage and Cirque De Soleil over the years. We’ll be doing 11 shows in Atlanta GA, Abingdon VA, Virginia Beach VA, Lancaster PA, Somerville NJ, Erie PA, Bartlett IL, Hopkinsville KY, St. Louis MO, Tulsa OK, and Linn MO. Come out and say “hello” and celebrate the Christmas season with all of us.

Live In Amsterdam – Vinyl Release!!

We are moving forward with our “Live In Amsterdam” recording, our first vinyl release, in early 2015. This show was recorded in Amsterdam in 2012, while my brother Jim and son Brendan were with me in Europe, touring after our performance with Jimmy Buffett in Paris, France. We are offering a special presale discount for those of you who would like to reserve one of these limited issue albums. Each package will include a signed copy of “Live In Amsterdam,” along with a digital copy of the recording for your digital media player. We played our first show in Amsterdam in 2012, at the club De Heeren Van Aemstel. Fortunately, there was an excellent recording made of the night. When we listened to the recording a few weeks after the show, we were really excited to hear the fantastic sound and special energy of the night. We’ve assembled the top songs together on one vinyl disc for a first-time special media release of a very special night. Stay tuned for details on the album and the special pre sale offer!
