Reflecting back on November, I can say for sure, it has been an explosive month, pardon the pun, I feel all my hard work is starting to pay off. This months news is very exciting in deed. My project singing the line into existence has inspired a University lecture Dr Louise Ritchie to get on Board! Louise has been researching her own train project called “ day return” the relationship between West Wales and the West Midlands via the Cambrian train line. Louise applied for funding from the Strategic insight programme to work with me, and got it!. Together we will discus and reflect on our shared interest in relation to performance, place and travel.

One of the sites we will be researching will be Pont Lanio Station and creamery. You can find out how my first visit went, at this awesome site here.

To the run up to four craft fairs this month, I loaded my car with my porcelain pictures, sculptures, earrings size porcelain, and drove to Flowering Elbow workshop in the heart of the Carmarthenshire countryside, to work collaboratively with my talented friend and inventor, designer maker Bongo. His company, specialising in making unique functional and beautiful pieces from reclaimed waste or local sustainable sources materials. Their web site is here. I really enjoy working with Bongo as we have a good connection, his work and philosophy really resonates with me. Every time I go to the workshop I learn a new skill and expand my imagination to the possibilities of creating beautifully combined ceramics, wood or other material pieces. While at his workshop I interviewed Bongo about his company and his practice. I hope you enjoy our very relaxed and informal talk.

Nature into clay workshop: Painting and glazing

This final stage, the painting on of oxides stains and glazing workshop, was a delight. Everyone one was really happy that their pieces survived the first firing and transportation. I felt the technique painting on oxides and wiping away top layer away revealing the stain in the groves and the top layer white, went down well. This technique is something I always find exhilarating as it enhances the texture and pattern and makes the piece come alive. You can find out how it went from the perspective of one of the students, who wrote about it in her blog here

Craft fairs

At the beginning of the month I attended Fleat at the stunning Small World Theatre. An awesome event! I saw some fellow makers, foodies, familiar faces and picked up a two retro top for a bargain

Cardiff arts Collective craft fair was a very stylish affair, in the stunning St Johns hall Anton. We all had matching table clothes and a live band played all day. It was a very successful day all round, even though the rugby international was in the city. I enjoyed being back in my second home (I used to live in Cardiff). I made some lovely contacts, saw some old friends and made a new ones.

On the same day as I was in Cardiff my parents kindly did a craft fair in Cwmcarn Forest drive for me. Not far from Cwmcarn is Abercarn where I grew up. I have fond memories going for picnics and walks up the Forest Drive which is very popular with mountain biking.

Sunday was my turn at Cwmcarn, I met people from way back when. One such person was my comprehensive school Chemistry teacher, who I have not seen in 25 years. I showed him my porcelain picture, framed using a reclaimed chemistry sink topper. I think he liked it!

I like Craft fairs! Do you? full of talented makers enjoying selling there creations. I also love to pick up a gift or two

What a special craft fair this will be... an honesty box will be needed as I will be to busy dancing. Thank you for reading Wish you all a great Christmas (if you celebrate it)
