December updates from Howe Sound Women's Centre Society

Remembering Our Sisters

Written by Donna Billy Sisolia
HSWC Front Line Support Worker & First Nations Advocate

I believe we are still in shock over the Montreal Massacre that took place on December 6, 1989, now 25 years ago. I also believe we should not hide our feelings of loss for our sisters and their families. The memories are still vivid to this day, and stand as a reminder that there is still so much hurt and violence in the world. Not only for women, but for their daughters, sons, nieces, and nephews. December 6 will continue to remind us, as sisters, to remain strong in our fight to end violence against women and children.Read More

Join us on December 11 from 6 pm - 9 pm at the Brackendale Art Gallery for a fundraiser to support the Women’s Centre’s Children's Programs. Local yoga instructors are teaming up to teach a fun and accessible 2 hour yoga class (6:30-8:30) that will be sure to bring a smile to your face and calm to your spirit.  Tickets are $25 and available at Shala Yoga, The Yoga Co-op and Howe Sound Women's Centre.

Please contact Andrea at the Women's Centre if you have any questions at 604.892.5748 or asentesy@hswc.ca.

International Women’s Day Art Show

The inaugural International Women’s Day Art Show will be taking place March 3 through March 6, 2015 at the Squamish Public Library, and organizers are now doing their call out for artists! To honor and celebrate women’s expression, women’s artwork on the theme ‘compassion’ will be on exhibit in the Foyer Gallery of the Library for the duration of the event. All proceeds from the Art Show benefit Howe Sound Women’s Centre Society.

Contact the International Women’s Day Art Show Committee for more information and entry forms at womensartshow15@gmail.com.

Donor Recognition

Our gratitude goes out to the following community partners for your  heartfelt generosity and support in choosing Howe Sound Women's Centre the charity recipient for your fund raising events:

  • Rosalind Young and friends who hosted the annual Tea Party Fundraiser to raise $2,275 for Pearl's Safe Home!
  • Our friends at WORCA, who empowered women to channel their inner super heroine at the annual Women's Race, raising $3,747 for the Whistler Women's Centre
Every gift, born in the same place of the heart, has our gratitude.

We love and encourage community members to host their own fundraising events in support of the Howe Sound Women's Centre Society.  It is a great way to connect with family and friends, while contributing to crisis support for women and children in your community.
