This December, we're paying homage to the classic Christmas carol, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.

This tune was published in 1943 and first crooned by Judy Garland in the 1944 movie, Meet Me in St. Louis. It's always been one of my personal favorites because sometimes the retail version of Christmas can feel loud, large, and overwhelming. It's a lovely reminder of the little joys that make the season special. I hope you enjoy seeing what our Designers, Creative Team, and December Featured Scrap Girls come up with as they use this song as their inspiration.
Theme: Let Your Heart Be Light
All this month, we will be using the lyrics from Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas for our layout inspiration. This week, our Creative Team pondered what "Let Your Heart be Light" means to them when they think about the holiday season. And since today starts our annual Card & Craft Sale, they showed how this idea could be used to make a stellar greeting card.
Our Creative Team is joined by Scrap Girls customer, Vikki Lamar.

About Vikki: "I am a wife of 21 years and a mother of a 20-year-old son, Zach, and a 17-year-old daughter, Kay'D. I am a stay-at-home wife and mom and enjoy all kinds of crafts from woodworking and furniture refinishing to jewelry making and sewing. Scrapbooking is new to me, as I have only been doing it for about two years, so I am way behind on photos!"
Christmas is a wonderful time of year to use techniques that play with the appearance of light and how light works with other elements. This photo was taken at the local Brewery who have been putting on a Christmas light display for as long as I can recall. My parents took me when I was little and I still take my boys – it isn’t Christmas until we have seen ‘the lights’! The dark night sky in my photo allowed the Christmas lights to shine and be a focal point, and inspired me to use the layer mask behind the photo to continue that feeling of the night sky, layering the different shades of blue and grey. A brush gave a little extra twinkle! - Jody
I was inspired to use happy colors for this card, not just the traditional Christmas colors. Christmas is a happy time, so I just I thought of all the things that made me happy when constructing this card. Then I thought it would be fun to have the gingerbread kids riding the reindeer, so I used a mask to erase parts of their legs to make them appear to be riding the reindeer. - Andrea-Rose

It's Christmas! Collection
When I hear the lyrics, "Let your heart be light," I feel a surge of pure joy and a lightness of spirit. This 'Willow Tree Collectible' statue exudes those characteristics to me, so I thought it would make a perfect art journal-style Christmas card. The starburst was added as brushwork right on top the photo. Key areas of the starburst were brushed away so it looks like the starburst is coming from behind and through the statue, emphasizing the ethereal nature of the lyrics.  - Amy

What does "Let Your Heart be Light" mean to you when you think about Christmas? Do you think of it in the literal sense when you see all the lights twinkling around you? Or is it more a feeling you get when you notice people being a little more kind to each other this time of year? This a fun challenge because you can be "journally" - or not!
