A holiday exhibit and open house at the Cookeville History Museum is among the many festive events planned this month.
Holidays come to life with Cookeville Leisure Services
COOKEVILLE – As the city begins to light up in sparkling red and green, the holiday season is ushered in with annual Christmas traditions.
For Cookeville Leisure Services, it is a time to share the festive spirit of the holidays with the community, from the hanging of the first holiday wreath on downtown lampposts by the city’s park maintenance, or “beautification” crew, to the community tree lighting ceremony at the Cookeville Performing Arts Center and beyond.
The Community Christmas Tree lighting ceremony on the front plaza at the Cookeville Performing Arts Center is a symbolic launching of the city into the Christmas season.
This year’s event is scheduled for Monday, December 2, with festivities beginning at 5 p.m. (This event follows the schedule of the Cookeville Christmas Parade. Should the parade be rescheduled, this event will be moved to the rescheduled date as well.)
Holiday music will be provided by singers from Prescott South Elementary School, the Mastersingers and First Baptist Church. The tree, sponsored by the West Side Business Association, will light up just about 6 p.m.
Hot chocolate available in the CPAC lobby is extra enticement to stick around and watch Cookeville’s annual Christmas parade, which takes place that same night, from the CPAC plaza, one of the best vantage points in town.
More Christmas fun comes to life at the Cookeville Depot Museum’s annual Christmas Open House, held the first Saturday in December each year.
This year’s “Christmas Carnival” will be held Saturday, December 6, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the historic Depot.
A holiday tradition for more than 20 years, many local children have grown up enjoying the themed celebration, highlighted with yummy, homemade treats and a visit with Santa Claus.
With 2014’s Christmas Carnival theme, there is sure to be plenty of games, treats, prizes and maybe even a surprise visitor or two.
On Sunday, December 7 at 3 p.m., come back over to CPAC for the Cookeville Community Band’s annual Holiday Concert.
Over at Cookeville’s History Museum, the holiday exhibit “Childhood Treasures: A Vintage Toy Collection” will be open November 29 through January 10.
On December 13, the museum will host a holiday open house of its own.
Santa will be available for pictures from 10 to noon and goodies will be served.
All events are free and open to the public, so grab your family and all your friends and come delight in all the best the holiday season has to offer with Cookeville's Department of Leisure Services.
