A Year of Sustainability

For Haitian Families First, 2014 has been a year of sustainability. After accepting more than 100 children and students into our programs throughout 2012-2013, our focus during 2014 has been to ensure they receive the best support and care possible from the HFF team. While we strive to grow our reach further every day, we are careful to recognize our limitations as a small organization.

Although we did not aim to bring new children into our Health and Nutrition programs in 2014, there are, inevitably, situations each and every day where HFF is approached for help. As often as possible, we refer families to other services available in their communities. Sometimes, HFF is the best suited organization to meet a certain need.

Meet Our Newborns

Thomas was born July 10th. His young mother was uncertain that she could keep and care for her baby. While she was pregnant, we supported her by providing prenatal vitamins and counseling through her decision to parent her baby instead of giving him up to an orphanage.

Richarmard was born August 6th. Her mother had two still births in the last 5 years. She asked us to help her receive prenatal care so that her baby would be born healthy. Richarmard is doing great at home with her loving mom.

Born on October 8th, Bwed's entrance into the world was touch and go. His mom had high blood pressure and was in distress just after giving birth, she needed medical attention. We received a call from a neighbor who was familiar with our work, and helped ensure that Bwed and his mom received the care they needed to survive.

On October 9th, a loving grandmother who had heard of HFF's work in her community contacted us. Her daughter had been in labor with twins at home for hours and was not doing well. We knew she needed to go to a hospital, and once we helped her get there found that one of the babies was breech. Without proper care from a doctor, Jolise, Joline and their mom may not have survived the delivery.

Paulson was born October 21st. His mom had taken in her young niece, Lovencia, after her sister died in 2013. Now, she has a son of her own. While she knew from the beginning that she wanted to parent her baby boy, she knew she needed help with prenatal care which HFF was excited to provide.

Kenly, our most recent addition, was born November 21st. His older siblings are in the HFF Education Program. Kenly's mother is HIV positive. HFF helped ensure that she had a safe birth, and we are glad to share that Kenly is testing negative for HIV! As his mother is unable to breastfeed, he will receive formula through our nutrition program for the next year.

All of these little ones have a different story, and because we were able to provide support to their loving, nurturing parents, they now have a bright future ahead of them.

Because of your support, we are able to meet the needs of little ones like Thomas, Paulson and Kenly whenever they occur - even unexpectedly. We recognize that without you, we would not have the resources necessary to provide options to families like these.

This Giving Tuesday, please consider donating to any one of our programs so that we may answer the call to keep families together in Haiti.

Thank You!
