Lesson 532: Bread from Heaven

Why did God give us strong appetites? Didn’t He know they could lead us into sin?

During the Exodus, the children of Israel were hungry and thirsty; God provided manna and water.

God not only met their physical needs; He also showed them about Himself, and why He cared for them.

Jesus fed the 5,000. That night, He walked on the water and calmed the storm. The next day, the crowd came to Capernaum looking for Jesus. Jesus told them:

John 6:27 “Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you.”

The crowd wanted Jesus to give them a sign by providing bread, just as God had done during the Exodus. Jesus answered:

John 6:31-32 “it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.”

Jesus told them that He was the true manna from God. John 6:48-51

There’s nothing wrong with strong appetites; God created them. The issue is what we crave.

Jesus wants us to hunger & thirst for righteousness, so that we will be satisfied.

Only one thing in the universe is capable of satisfying us: the Gospel of Christ. Matt.5:6

John 4:10, 13-14 whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again.

About This Series

The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21

- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work
