December 2014: As we wrap up a busy 2014 there are mixed emotions as the Class of 2014 graduates and we look forward to the year ahead where a group of diverse highly motivated leaders will be joining the 2015 Leadership programme.

Welcome

Talofa Lava, Tena Koe

I’m feeling a mixed range of emotions as we wrap up 2014 and look to a new year ahead.

We celebrated the graduation of the 2014 Leadership programme - the 10th programme year of Leadership NZ. 33 amazing, authentic leaders have now joined our alumni. The Hon Tariana Turia encouraged them to be catalysts, champions and change-makers focussed on transformation: “to go out there and make the very best of what you have learnt and our nation will be better for the difference you will make”.

During the last few months my sadness at the ending of the 2014 programme has been tempered by growing excitement as we have selected another stellar group of diverse highly motivated leaders for the 2015 Leadership programme.

Once again I have many things to share with you. For all details click here »

Alofa and thanks to everyone who has helped make this year a success. Rod Oram said at the final retreat that he believed the most infinite resource we have is the human imagination! Well, you all enable a small aspirational organisation to be imaginative! With you we dream big things and together we are shaping and transforming the leadership culture of New Zealand.

Class of 2014 Graduation

Leadership NZ was delighted to host the graduation of the 2014 Programme participants at Q Theatre, Auckland on 22 November. With MC, alumnus Steve Ferguson, the Hon Tariana Turia as guest speaker, together with guest appearances from “Superwoman” and “Captain James T Kirk”, the evening was a great success and a fitting way to wrap up this year’s programme (which is the 10th programme to graduate since our inception). Another 33 amazing NZ leaders have joined the Leadership NZ alumni and are now connected and committed to shaping and leading Aotearoa.

 Alumni Update

 –  he tangata, he tangata, he tangata

Edward Cook completed the Leadership NZ programme in 2009 and in 2011 ventured to the UK where he works with young people in an organisation that is growing rapidly.

Edward credits Leadership NZ with the skills and awareness that were instilled in him through the leadership programme and that have helped him be instrumental in driving the growth and appreciating the need for change in communities.

Pay it Forward

Alumni Pay it Forward

Part of Leadership NZ’s ethos is that Alumni make a commitment to “pay it forward”.

This can be done in many ways which include speaking at, hosting and sponsoring Leadership NZ sessions and events, financial donations, being a member of ARG, volunteering for SkillsBank projects, being a Trustee, providing voluntary support to Leadership NZ etc.

We wish to acknowledge and thank the following Alumni who have generously supported Leadership NZ across all these activities during the period 23 August 2014 – 28 November 2014.

Sir Paul and Lady Reeves
Scholarship Fund

The Sir Paul and Lady Reeves Scholarship Fund was launched in 2012 in the loving memory of Sir Paul. This fund enables scholarships for those who would otherwise be unable to take part in Leadership NZ’s leadership programmes.

We believe there should be no unreasonable economic barrier for an individual to participate, and so scholarships are an essential part of ensuring the diversity of participants in our programme.

Leadership NZ and our scholarship recipients would greatly appreciate your support. You can make an on-line donation at our webstore or contact us on 09 309 3749.

If it had not been for a scholarship, Olive Brown may not have been able to participate in the Leadership NZ leadership programme.
