MSAers in Action
UoP MSA raises $15,000 for Gaza
Students from the University of Pacific's MSA hosted a charity banquet for children in Gaza in partnership with KinderUSA this past month. They brought out Miko Peled, an Israeli peace activist and author of "The General's Son: Journey of an Israeli in Palestine," to speak. The event also featured performances from spoken word artists. The $15,000 raised from the banquet will be donated to KinderUSA, a non-profit that can provide direct aid to the children through their offices in Gaza. Jazakum Allahu Khairan to UOP's MSA for their efforts in helping our brothers and sisters in Palestine.
San Francisco State hosts "Jummah Under the Sun"
San Francisco State University hosted their seventh annual "Jummah Under the Sun" event as a part of their Islam Awareness Week. Shaykh Hamzah Maqbul of Chicago gave the khutbah, and Mufti Abdullah Nana attended as well. The outdoor prayer, along with their other events, serves to educate students on campus about Islam and a Muslim's lifestyle. The event drew about 60-70 people. May SFSU's MSA continue in their success for events like this one, which benefit not only the students on their campus, but the entire ummah.
UCLA divests
UCLA's Undergraduate Student Association Council passed "A Resolution to Divest from Companies Engaged in Violence against Palestinians" on Nov. 18. May Allah (swt) reward all the brave UCLA students who took a stand, spoke up in favor of the resolution and fought for it to pass. Alhamdulillah, the efforts paid off!
