Holiness, Godliness, Usefulness

Lesson 481: The Source of Holiness, Pt.1
God alone provides all that we need to grow in holiness and godliness.
We have no basis for boasting in our works, or for comparing ourselves to others.
No one has any claim on God’s blessing; no one can earn or deserve His favor.
God uses our obedience to conform us to the image of Christ & to sanctify our character.
But the work that pleases God is the work of His Spirit; it adds nothing to our merit.
God transforms us, using our will & our work as His instruments, to build what He designed.
He uses these instruments as tools in His hand to accomplish His purposes.
Phil.1:6 he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
Phil.2:12-13 work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
About This Series
The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21
- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
