Chapter 118 Lays a Wreath at the San Diego State University War Memorial
At the invitation of the San Diego State University War Memorial Committee, Chapter 118 participated in the 20th annual Wreath Laying Ceremony on Friday, November 7, 2014. The ceremony recognizes the service of approximately 200 alumni who gave their lives in the service of the United States.
The alumni member recognized this year was Clinton B. Gaty, a member of the US Army Air Forces. He was instrumental in the development of photo reconnaissance capabilities during World War II.
Chapter President, Dick Jeffreys, laid the wreath for Chapter 118. Cadets from AFROTC Detachment 075 participated in the ceremony.
The ceremony concluded with a fly-by of a Navy trainer from Air Group One, the San Diego Wing of the Commemorative Air Force.
Chapter 118 Visit to General Atomics
The Chapter arranged a tour hosted by General Atomics of their facilities in Poway on Saturday November 15, 2014. General Atomics is a world leader in proven, reliable Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.
The company is dedicated to providing long-endurance, mission-capable aircraft with the integrated sensor and data link systems required to deliver persistent situational awareness and rapid strike capabilities.
The tour was well attended by over 30 Chapter members and their guests. We began the morning with coffee and donuts provided by chapter leaders.
Chris Seat, a chapter member and VP of Programs in the Aircraft Systems Group of General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GASSI) gave our group a comprehensive introductory briefing on the programs and activities across the numerous production facilities in Poway before we began the walking tour of the plant.
Unfortunately we were not allowed to carry cameras for security reasons but we started out on the shop floors viewing the areas where the components of the Predator and other unmanned aircraft manufactured there. From the electrical and structural components the tour continued on where we saw the final assembly of the aircraft.
The group was universally impressed with the state of the art production processes and the many men and women who provide leading edge capabilities to our warfighters.

Air Force Association signs Memorandum of Understanding with the Military Order of the World Wars
The Air Force Association (AFA) and the Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW) jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during the MOWW National Conference on August 9, 2014 in Baltimore, Maryland.
The MOU, signed by MOWW Commander in Chief Captain Debbie Kash and AFA Senior Director of Education and Communication Chester Curtis Jr., will allow closer cooperation between the two organizations on subjects like patriotic education among our youth and allow for a stronger voice on national security matters.
AFA and MOWW share similar values, such as fostering fraternal relations among all branches of the Armed Forces, defending honor, integrity and supremacy of our national government and the United States Constitution, and preserving the ideals of patriotism.
The MOU serves as another example of AFA’s commitment to creating partnerships that support the United States Armed Forces.
