BCTN Meerhout and PSA Antwerp join forces

BCTN Meerhout and PSA Antwerp are implementing a vertical supply chain information exchange pilot. In light of this trial, container information will be exchanged between the inland and deepsea terminal prior to the vessel arrival.

A test pilot will commence in Q1 2015 to gain experience with e-terminal partnerships. As the number one barge destination for PSA Antwerp, BCTN Meerhout naturally stands out as the ideal partner in this respect.

PSA Antwerp implements electric quay cars and hybrid straddle carriers

PSA Antwerp has invested significantly in making its car and machine fleet greener by implementing electric quay cars and hybrid straddle carriers.

On September 29th, the first 11 electric cars arrived at PSA Antwerp's Europa Terminal. Using these cars (Renault Zoë), PSA Antwerp can lower its environmental impact by 29.53 tonnes of CO² emission per year.

Also, two new-generation hybrid straddle carriers are taken into use at MSC PSA European Terminal (MPET) and at Europa Terminal. These hybrid machines' regenerative energy systems convert electrical braking and spreader energy into electric power. This new system can deliver a 40% decrease in CO² emission.

In addition, PSA Antwerp is making great effort in minimizing its environmental impact by recovering energy from quay cranes, implementing energy-efficient illumination and automated lighting control to its terminals and organizing 'green initiatives' for staff, such as 'clean-up days', 'mobility weeks', 'paper-free workdays', etc.

Port of Antwerp on course for new record year

If the port stays on trend, it will finish the year with a new record freight volume. Last year was already an all-time record with a volume of 190.8 million tonnes.

Container volume rose during the first nine months by 6.0% to 81,127,972 tonnes. In terms of TEU, the growth is currently 5.0%, ending at 6,725,777 TEU of which over 80% is handled by PSA Antwerp.

PSA Antwerp awarded as attractive employer in Antwerp

PSA Antwerp sponsors Special Olympics Athlete

In September 2014, Belgium hosted the Special Olympics 2014 in which 2,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities from 58 countries competed against each other in several disciplines. PSA Antwerp proudly sponsored 26 year old Table Tennis player Roman Omarov from Turkmenistan.

With this contribution, PSA Antwerp covered all Roman's expenses during his stay in the athletes' village and, even more important, fulfilled Roman's lifelong dream of being professionally sponsored during the Special Olympics.
